Yesterday the big brown truck delivered my Euro Parcel Shelf which I bought from Moss Mini for US$92.95. All parts were OEM. The kit included the shelf, a rubber mat, a dummy switch plate, two nut clips, two black screws, and some instructions. A good supplement to the Moss instructions are the pictures in Jason Lingoood’s writeup.

Everything went as described in the instructions (both) with the exception of removing the original panel. The instructions say to gently lift the panel from its lower pivots, but I found that the center pivot required downward pressure to get it to release. No big deal, just a couple of minutes of frustration when the panel wouldn’t just lift off. The entire task took about twenty minutes and required nothing except a #20 Torx driver and a flashlight.

The extra storage space is badly needed, and the rubber mat keeps things from sliding around even in fairly spirited driving. A highly recommended DIY upgrade.

 

I just got word that my box from Classic Auto campus arrived. Including a parcel shelf and touch-up paint. (my Langka showed up today, too) I can't wait to do the install (my second mod!).

I would reccommend calling the guys at Classic Auto Campus (in the sponsors' section) for any OEM parts. They have great deals, especially if you mention NAM!

I just wanted to second calling Classic for the parts, it's only about $64 from them (plus shipping, which is combined with a bunch of other things for me).

I installed it today (as well as an alarm, floor mats, auc input, new valve stem caps with the S, wheel lock, and the rear storage pouch), and it was pretty easy to do, and I installed the au x port, without the plate, to the switch cover on the parcel shelf. :smile:

 

Was up at Mini Peabody getting my programmable features changed. Picked up the Euro Shelf, which they carry in stock. Took 15 mins to fit myself. Only problem was snapping on the clips underneath. Bit of levering with a screwdriver and got it fixed. Great upgrade - it’s the mutts nuts. :smile:

Would you guys please let me know how you went about this clip underneath?
I couldn't get mine to snap into place...right now its held by the top screws
and some friction (its not moving but want the snaps to go on properly).

Do I need to remove the shelf inorder to get that snap to go in?
It doesn't look possible to get that to snap into place on mine. :smile:

I did one at a time. You'll have to apply some force to the black crossmember that the parcel shelf snaps onto (toward the parcel shelf), but they will snap into place. I know in my case that it looked like it wouldn't happen, but it did...

Thanks, Marty..will give that a shot. I pretty much tried everything even
try pushing down on the black crossmemeber but did not try pushing it
towards the shelf snaps. hope it works. :smile:

I think I'll wait until I do the driving light wiring though, as I think I need
to go through the grommet through the firewall.

I found it easier to come in at an angle, back of the shelf higher, and get the side alignment portions aligned, then bring the top part (where the screws are) up. I've had mine out numerous times to mount 12 volt plug, fm mod, bracket for roady etc and it gets easier each time.

It was very a bit tricky. I had to lie on my back with my head stuck up the footwell. I ended up getting to very close, then using a flat ended screwdriver. I stuck the screwdriver between the crossmember and the clips on the shelf and levering the clips over the shelf. One went on pretty easily. The others took a little more work. Don't give up - you will get them on. BTW no amount of banging or thumping the shelf would get them on.

It was about $100 all in. You could get cheaper off the Web I'm sure, but I was up there and I had time to fit it that afternoon.

I did mine at a slight angle too. One side, then the other.

 

Maybe one reason they don't do the shelf in the US is the lawyers are scared that things will slide off under your feet as you drive. I'd be pretty surprised if that happened as it has a **very** sticky rubber mat on it that nothing slips off. It also has a rim (unlike the glove box) which stops stuff too.

BTW make sure you get the switch blanking plate too. There is a hole in the left side of the shelf for a switch. I actually have the front spots which were driven from a switch mounted on the old cover I removed. The switch fitted fine without the blanking plate, but I did need to proivde a little screwdriver action to bend the sping clips on it to hold it in place.

 

I got the snaps to go on. :smile: click!

The one on the left was harder... I actually put a slight taper on
the cross member side with an x-acto knife to make the snap slip
onto it easier. Since the snap holds the cross member on the other
side, the taper does not matter. click!

that's one pretty expensive piece of rubber!!

Is it that "custom" and special? Or can you roll your own? I've seen some pads 3M sells that might work, either solid or a rubber mesh.

 

Yes it was a bit of an ouch. It’s pretty thick, molded to the shape and dimply on top, but you could try and roll your own. Without something stuff might roll off under your feet and the pedals, which would not be cool.
