JCW Tuning Kit 2010 R57 (Software)

Tomorrow is my install for the Tuning Kit. This might sound like a stupid questions but is there a way that I can tell if they upgraded the ECU software in the vehicle? I have a strange feeling that when I called the mini dealership for the kit, they had not done this install before? I could be wrong.

Thanks in advance.

They put a sticker on the control unit, and give you a swell certificate for your files at home or the glovebox.

Not a great answer, I agree, anyone can apply a sticker.

It should run *lots* better. :-)

My 2/2012 build MCS caused some extra computer-work when they installed mine; took an extra day while they got "the latest software from corporate".

I was just in the Ozark / Boston Mountains of NW Arkansas this past weekend. Still amazed at the torque of a kitted MINI: strong 5th gear pulls at 45-50 mph up those hills, it shouldn't be able to do that being only 1.6L. But: it does.

So today was the day that I had the JCW Tuning Kit Installed. I was told that it would take a little over 2 hours. After 5 hours I got a call saying that when they went to update the software it had never been update (Feb 2010) and it has 14 hours left. Noooo! I was soo looking forward to getting the car back today.

Does any one know if there were a lot of changes in the software from 2010 until now? What do those updates typically change?

I had the same experience when mine was installed.

They started work on a Monday, clean up + install checker graphics + install the kit; finally got going on the kit on Monday afternoon. Tuesday delivery predicted.

Then: hmmm...they needed new software, "probably Tuesday, late".

No joy...finally took delivery on Wednesday after work.

Apparently *yes*, lots of software updates were needed.

Some informed member might know exactly. Motoring File had an entry for that significant software update to help deal with the torque steer on early R56 S models, IIRC that was 2010'ish so that may be part of it.

Enough IIRC, let's have a look: googled R56 "torque steer" site: www.motoringfile.com

Ah yes, 10/4/2010:

http://www.motoringfile.com/2010/10/...steer-fix-r56/

So there's one change that might need to be incorporated.

Thanks for taking the time to post. I will take a look at the links. When you got your kit installed did you have any drone with the new exhaust form the kit? I am a little worried about this.

Post Service (Errors)

I just got back from the dealer and everything looks, feels and sounds great! The problem is that I am now getting two errors. The Service light and the Tire Sensor light are both on.

Is it possible when they flashed the software that it reset the computer and now things need to be reset?

Thanks

Drone? I don't really think so. I've always thought "drone" was an exhaust harmonic, LOUD, occurs in a certain band of RPM and causes body work resonations. So I don't have that. But reading forum posts on drone, I may define it more narrowly than the next guy.

I would say: a)my exhaust isn't too loud for me; b) I've had it installed for almost 15,000 miles and it's "matured" into more sound than the day I drove it home; c) it is louder under load, uphill, than not. Me, my wife, the 65lb dog, and a weekend's load of luggage had it being pretty audible going up Arkansas hills. That included having the hatch area in cargo mode; I've also noticed that back seat up / parcel shelf in place diminishes the exhaust sound quite a bit.

Yeesh. They sent you away with lights lit? Or...they were off, but came on? I don't have a sure answer for this...I didn't have that experience. Plausible, that's a lot of engine control computer work for the upgrade, but you'd think they'd do any necessary resetting before sending you on your way.

Thanks for the input. I got it back Friday and I LOVE it! I can definitely tell a difference. When accelerating and turning a corner I need to be careful. LOL. The boost can be fun but can put you to the curb before you know it.

I think that must have been what happened. Everything is good now. I will be watching it tho.

Thanks

Excellent! Great to hear this. I was just marveling tonite at this: 4th gear, 2500 rpm, then just roll on the throttle. 1.6L 4 cyls shouldn't have torque like this. Yet...it does!
