2013 Satellite Radio Upgrade?
Have 2013 MCS with bluetooth, but not satellite. Lokking to add satellite. Dealer seems confused if needs just software/code purchase or receiver hardware as well. Any wisdom out there? Thanks.
Satellite radio requires equipment. The 2011s and maybe the 2012s came with it already, and a free year sub. The 2013s don't have it installed at the factory, so we just ordered it in our new MINI and it costs $250 I think, and comes with a one year sub.
Some people buy the equipment as a portable set, so that they can take it in different cars. You might look into that, though there isn't much space to mount it in a MINI.

As for ordering it when you order the car it may only be $250 but when having it added after the car is delivered is much more expensive.
There are many places to put a Sat Receiver in a MINI and many have done it. Just check out the posts in the NAV and Audio section there are a bunch of people that show thiers mounted as removable and how they did it.
as i understand it, that has reversed on 2013 models, bluetooth is standard and sat radio is an option

2013 MCS; Satellite Upgrade
My vehicle has the hardware and wiring. It appears it needs the "enabling code" programmed in to activated Satellite radio option on car.
Dealer now reports that Mini says activation (enabling) code is not available for retrofit.
Note, BMW announced retrofit enabling code availability for MSRP of $375.00 with 1 year Sirius subscription in September for 2012-2013 BMW vehicles with hardware.
Does anyone have any different information? Mini part number would be the trick.

Now have Satellite. Car had all wiring and hardware. 0674 HK premium sound. Needed to purchase "enabling code" and have radio firmware programmed. Part no. 65-12-2-336-819. Now sit down. Cost $360 plus tax plus labor. Includes 1 year Sirius. It works.

Gambedegallina- your post says you were able to get the Sirius enabled with the HK premium sound package 0674. Do you also have the satellite prep 0693? I only have the HK package so I'm not sure I can get Sirius enabled. Asked the dealer and they're going to check- they sounded really unsure about it. Thanks!
Unfortunately, I can't answer the question as I had the same issue with the dealer. The spec print out I got from service advisor, from key fob data, I think, shows the 0674 HK premium sound, but does not list the sat prep. I have a faint recollection that when I took my VIN to the parts department, they were able to pull up the sat prep on the vehicle. The sat. coding part number (activation) was 65-12-2-336-819.
