I thought I would share what I did last weekend. I added a Catch Can and Boost port last year to help reduce the carbon build up on the valves. I only use the boost port to block off the PCV tube.

I was working on the car recently and cracked the PCV tube by accident. I did a temp fix by wrapping it in tape until I could find a better solution. I didn't want to buy a new tube as I wasn't using it, so I stumbled across this cap that works perfectly.

I purchased qty 2 from ECS Tuning. It's a VW part, but when I called the local dealer it was a special order and their price was much higher.

Here is what I started with. You can see the boost port as well as the tape a little further down the tube.


I removed the airbox which gave me enough room to remove the stock tube. It was easiest to snake it out the bottom under the intake manifold.



Then it was just snapping the caps on the connections.

I was never a fan of the boost port just because I was only using it as a plug and not for it's intended purpose.

Just an idea for those out there wanting to add only an Oil Catch Can and looking for a way to block off the PCV tube. The only tools I used was a flat screwdrive and torx bit to remove the airbox. Really easy.

Yep done this and it is good to go. I am think of unblocking it though and running another catch can.

 

What would be the point of unblocking it. The engine doesnt seem to struggle w/o pcv tube. Just curious why you would want to do it.

I just feel like on the long run I think there is going to be problems. I am replacing my valve cover next weekend and I will he able to see if there is any issues.

 

I'd like to hear about that to see what the verdict is on blocking this port, I do have the OCC at this time

 

I'm still not understanding the reasons for adding the hose back in, even with an OCC.
The new mini's have the revised valve cover which doesnt have the rear PCV tube. I cant think of any technical reason why the removal of the hose connection would do any long term damage. The cover still has the connection feeding the turbo, which the catch can should capture most of the residue as well as relieve any pressure related issue.
I'm not saying its a bad idea, just would like to see some technical explanation.

 

I don't really care what the new technical update is I am still driving a 2007 with the N14 so I still have to worry about it.

The reason I am thinking of running another can is because I think that I am just blocking it off and it building up behind the block off because I am not seeing any more out put on the other side but, I am seeing an increase in oil consumption. It is most likely from blow by but, hell it just might be from the fact that I have a leaky valve cover or my oil turbo line might be crapping the bed. I will find out when I pull the valve cover off next weekend.

First question: Yes I did.
Second question: Nope, but I do remember they did say "Are you sure they're the right part, they're just caps"

I did think of ordering from ECS, but shipping for just caps were too much since I didn't need anything else to go with it.
