R50/53 Deposit and Wait
I have to admit part of this problem is due to me.
Three weeks ago put down a deposit on a MCS at the local dealership (John Roberts in Dallas). They told me that I should get my build date in three to four weeks and my car would arrive in late June or early July.
Now that I have been looking around, I have realized that I could have my car two to three months earlier if I had done some research. Does anyone have any experience getting your deposit back, or maybe finding your exact car at another dealer and having it transferred to your local dealer?

While not privy to the deal you made with Roberts, generally before you receive a production number, you can get your deposit back. But this may vary from dealer to dealer. Obviously this is something that one should research before signing the check. Good luck.
HA........ Hey man I waited 10 months for my car so your crying to the wrong guy but if it was me and I might be wrong but there's probably be a bunch of people here that will say what I'm about to. Just wait.........it will make getting the car that much more worth it.
When I first started looking at Minis (around the beginning of February) my dealer told me there were none available to suit my needs, and that I would have to order one, and the wait would be about two months. I didn't order at that time because I had to sell my car first and didn't know if I would be successful. Within a few weeks I did sell my car. I called the dealer back, they did a search, and found that the exact car I wanted was in status "produced, not shipped" which meant that it was sitting on a dock in England waiting for the boat. It was destined for a dealership in California, but my dealer contacted them and got them to give it up. Lucky me! So yes, dealers can and do swap vehicles. But once I signed the purchase agreement with my dealer, it was claerly stated on the document that the $500.00 deposit was non-refundable. (This was why I didn't want to order without having sold my car first). It did take some maneuvering, as there is a two week gap between vehicles - I rented a car for the first week, and this week I have the use of the car of a friend who is on a cruise for a week - that worked out well for me! And I am lucky that I had only a two week gap instead of the original two month wait - that would have been one big rental car bill! The happy ending to this story is that my Mini should be here tomorrow. This shows that where there's a will there's a way, so go for it, try to get that deposit back or see if the dealer can find a car somewhere else so you can be motoring ASAP!
