Same here, not sure what the issues people were having were but mine paired quickly and effortless.. now the bigger problem is finding a damn car charger!

Just use the supplied USB cable and plug it in under the centre console!

instead of buying a new cable from Mini/BMW for about $85, i ended up buying an airport express from Apple and modding it to run off of USB. Since the airport has a 3.5mm audio out, i can wirelessly Airplay music to my car and still have bluetooth connectivity for phone calls. Plus sound quality is close to what you'd get connecting the phone right into the stereo. If anyone wants to do this, PM me and I can send you all the parts, directions you need

Any issues with the receiver of your phone calls, I've have quite using the Bluetooth for calls as the receiver had difficulty understanding what was said due to cab noise (I think).

the problem was with the old mini/bmw iphone cable. 30pin to lightining wont work as it doesnt support video out.

certain mini apps are not working or the app crashes. people have reporting music working fine though. i dont see why it wouldnt sync bt either.
