I have a 2004 MC with only 700 miles. When I drive at speeds of 50+, I hear an awful squeaking sound coming from the front passenger side in the area of the right front pillar somewhere between the dash and the roof line. The "squeak" sounds like pieces of styroform rubbing together. Very annoying, to say the least. The noise seems to disappear when I drive at speeds under 50 or so. I wonder if air is leaking through the windshield. The dealer recently replaced the lower exterior windshield trim piece on that side of the car. The noise just appeared the other day. My car has a sunroof and the noise is the same whether the sunroof is open or closed. Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

I had a similar problem but it was a whistle, not a squeak. Only happened at 50 mph or higher. Mine was coming from the engine bay on the driver's side, just in front of the cowl vent. There was a hole in a metal structural piece that was supposed to have a rubber grommet in it. The outside air would come down throught the cowl vent and cause a whistle through that hole. The shop that replaced my bonnet neglected to put the grommet back after they finished their work. As soon as I convered the hole with a piece of duct tape, the whistle was gone.

If you think yours might be a whistle and not a squeak, reply here and I can take a picture of the exact hole I'm talking about.

Thanks for the suggestion, but my sound is more of a squeak. It sounds like two pieces of styrofoam rubbing together. I suspect that the sound-deading material, which is probably made of styrofoam, is loose and rubbing against something. :???: :???:

I figured out the problem. I had the lower exterior trim piece replaced not to long ago by dealer (the original trim piece was all scratched up at the time I bought the car). Apparently, it was not installed correctly.
