Thump noise..help!

After parking my car and unloading stuff out of the hatc, I noticed it was making this thumping noise every couple seconds, it reminds me of the clicking noise most cars make when you shut the engine off after driving but while having my hands on the car you could feel a slight vibration whenever the noise happened.. at one point it did it a few times, mind you the engine was completely shut off.. kind of sounded like when a stick shift back fires a bit.. Any thoughts on what it could be??

I've always thought it to be the exhaust contracting/shrinking after turning the car off, rubbing on their mounts. It'll be there for a lifetime!

I know cars make the clicking noise, but this is a lot louder, has some bass to it and this is the 1st time I've heard it since I've owned my mini.. unless i just havent been paying attention?! ugh!

Yep, if u sit inside the car after shutting off you can feel it too. I've experienced it many times over the past few years. Nothing to worry about really.

Right, it's air pressure (or vacuum) equalizing in the fuel tank. It's been reported here before, and I've occasionally heard it myself.

I have heard on all the minis my family and I have owned ('06, '09, and 3 11's), except for the '06 it. I only have heard I turn the car and wait for it to warm up during the winter months, otherwise I don't hear it. I never noticed it when the car was turned off, but I assume it does happen.
