For subs, if you can't find someone local, I'd go with Jersey Mike's if you have any near you.

[Sorry, couldn't resist. :-D ]

If you are wanting something that will sound awesome and take a beating to boot... Kicker is a very sturdy reliable product. I have used their stereo gear for years with 0 complaints.

I went with a smaller setup due to the smaller cabin. Even though its compact, it still puts out a nice punch! The single 10 " dvc sub could be changed out for 2 10 s or 12 s with a single voice coil at 4 ohm. The equipment I put in my MINI was:

Head Unit: Alpine CDE-HD138BT
Chose this head unit due to the 4v preouts and features.

Sub: (1) Kicker CompVr 10''
Dual 4 ohm Voice Coil, 800W peak/400W RMS, Mounting Depth 5 1/2''

Amp: Kicker ZX400.1
400W RMS @ 2Ohm Mono. My amps Kicker Birth Certificate rated at 482WRMS. Chosen due to its small size and decent power

Cap: Stinger SPC505
5Farad Digital Hybrid Capacitor w/Volt Meter

Box: Custom Built with Trim Plate. 0.8 Cu Ft

Wiring: 4Ga Kit

Not necessary but highly recommended ... if you put garbage signal to your amp you run the risk of distortion and blowing your equipment. As well a good head unit will be leaps and bounds better then your stock unit and will allow you to set crossovers for both your sub and your front and back stages. A head unit upgrade is one of the best audio upgrades you can do . This is one area you dont want to cheap out on .

Oh, its because I was thinking of trading the car in, in about 3-4 years. I dont want to put too much change into the car. Do you know if the head unit is hard to uninstall ?

My 02 was an easy install . If you do it right there is no cutting to the stock harness or dash and uninstall should be a cake walk .

In my case i had to by a stereo plug to plug into the stock harness. I then used butt connectors to connect that adapter plug to the plug for the alpine headunit. Uninstall is as easy as removing the harness created for the alpine headunit and plugging in your stock system .

There are ways of installing a custom stereo so that it can be removed and salvaged for your next toy . Just plan ahead before building .
