Yesterday the Safelite guy came out and installed a new windshield. This morning got into the Mini to go to work and the air bag light is on. Did he do something? Can I fix it myself?

TIA for any help.

 

WOW, nobody has any idea. I thought for sure people in here would know what was going on and/or how to fix it.

Oh well off to the dealer I guess.

 

don't go to the dealer. take it to any independent garage (you trust) that can read and clear codes. or get your own scanner if you want.

When I replaced my passenger seat, I disconnected the wiring while the key was in the ignition, so the airbag stayed lit. A shop just cleared it for me. I don't know what in the windshield could have done it. unless he clipped a wire that's running through the A-pillar. The bar that says "Airbag" on it.

 

To clear the airbag you need a bmw 200 tool, which i guess are hard to find, or find a shop that deals with car repair like wreckage wise, because the tool needed is not a regular scan tool, my lights been on for a long time too i tend to just ignore, until the next time I need service.

 

But if the light is on doesn't that mean the airbag isn't working? Yesterday I had a passenger and the "airbag off" light remained on.

 

unfortunately it will stay on. There is a computer hard drive in there that will register 3 faults before it needs to be replaced, so like just a heads up if you go to clear and it stays on there is some wire fault, as opposed to just like unplugging something plugging it back in, which would just stay cleared. As far as, will it still activate? im not entirely sure ive read that dealers have said it will still deploy and other have said they dont, my thought is it must. Of course yours was set by your windshield so im not sure mine was because I took my seat out... on that note there is a forum post i just found that says if its on none of them will deploy in gen 2.
