R50/53 another door latch question....
another door latch question....
Please forgive me if this is posted some where else and also direct me( no sense reinventing the wheel.)
Our first problem with our 06 JCW is that the cable that hooks into the door latch keeps coming out. I've see multiple people ask this but i was never able to find the answer to my question. I know how to get everything off the door... and what to do when they are off but we tried that. two weeks in the passenger door went, we fixed it , then the driver side door went. the passenger door still is fine but when we fixed it this time (driver side) it took only a day for it to pop off again.
Is this something that just happens a lot or is somthing actually broken?
is there a way to fix it?
any tips to lengthen the time it takes to pop off again?
Also if i forgot to say something of importance just ask.

I thought about that but I really wasn't sure what you would want pics of?
A diagram of the door?
Pics of the inside door?
(though it is very tight in there)
Door latch? and or cable?
If it helps we did not notice a difference between the left or the right cables or latches and overall nothing seemed broken.

well the cable end is what is failing, in my opinion. i guess i was trying to figure if it was that or if it was the latch and if and what needs to be replaced.
Since the cable end is easier to deal with and i really do not remember seeing a ball at the end lol... so i will check that first and report back with pics.
i was thinking that we would see if anything was actually broken but we would not know if something was missing.
thank you for replying - cheers

any time! happy to help.
only reason i mention the ball, is bc i had my doors apart just this weekend, and i remember looking at all the mechanisms (just bc i like to see how stuff works). i remember see a little ball at the end of a cable for the door. figured, if that was off or came out of its holder, the cable has nothing to "grab" with, hence your issue!

Yeah it makes sense. because nothing is wrong with the door but the fact that the cable comes out of the latch. and i could imagine that the cable may hook back in with out it but it would really be a matter of time before it pops out.
i will be attempting this after we run to a hardware store. i had a torque bit that fit and the misses said she wanted to try and put it back in the latch... and i said go ahead.
silly me.
5 minutes later she comes back with the driver and without the bit saying that she lost the bit and she cant find it.
speaking of does anybody know what size torque bit that is??
