Hi guys. I need to replace a damaged wheel stud on my car that was installed with loctite (i forget which color I used, red?). I don't want to just start unscrewing it with the hex because of the loctite and possibility of stripping. Any suggestions? Thanks!

 

Propane torch, heat breaks down the bond. You won't strip it though, the stud is stronger. An impact gun would take it right out.

 

You might have to put some heat to it. I know that is how we used to do it!

 

 

Here is a trick...
Take 2 nuts....put one on, rhen a second on, right up to the first, will act like a jamnut...then just wrench it off...a bit of heat will soften the locktite.
if you remove the studd this way you will not destroy the allen heads on the end, and they can be reused...but it is also musch easier since a wrech is easier to hold, and longer!!

Am I missing something? Do the 2011's have the same lug bolt as my 2006? (Although a slightly larger size) If he is removing lug bolts then doubling up the nut on the end will not work since there are no exposed threads.

 

He probably did a stud conversion.

Thread two nuts together onto the stud and tighten.

Use a wrench to hold the first nut towards the outside end of the stud and tighten the second not down onto the first nut. Once those two are snug against each other then use the inside nut to loosen the entire stud. If the first attempt just loosens the nuts instead of the stud, tighten the nuts some more and try again.
