Cigarette lighter illumination

Hi, does the ring arround your cigarette lighter light up when you turn the lights on?

Mine doesn't (2006 model year, built in late 2005). It will light up for most production years, but there was a period during 2005-2006 when MINIs were manufactured without the wiring or bulb for the ring illumination.

Actually I've done it.

You'll have to add the bulb holder, part # 61346915065 (purchase from a dealer or vendor): http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...=61&fg=35&hl=8

Item # 5 (comes included with a bulb):

The quick way to wire it is directly to the cigarette lighter power, which is what I did. The problem is that it lights up at full intensity whenever the car is turned on, which looks a bit odd during the day, and the bulb only lasted about a year. The correct way is to connect it to the interior illumination wire for buttons and gauges, but I didn't feel like taking the trouble to do that.
