A few wheel questions from a noob owner.
A few wheel questions from a noob owner.
The first question is very quick, Will Miata or honda rims fit? There are some on craigslist and the local SCCA classifieds board that can be had for cheap.
I want a set of wheels for winter that I wont have to worry about.
There is a set of honda rims on CL as well that im looking at.
The second question is about TPMS:
If I run wheels and tires without the TPMS in the wheels will the light just be on, or will there be a warning chime that will yell at me every minute prompting me of my impending doom?

I have some MSR wheels that came off a Honda - I needed hub rings to match the center bore.
On my first gen the tpms is not affected, my light never came on, someone on NAM told me that the first gens don't have a tpms in the wheel, it runs off the ABS somehow. The second gen's have a unit in the wheel that will set off the light on your dash... ignore it I guess?

Lug size doesn't matter, if you keep your stock bolts, those have a ball seat so they'll fit any wheel (except tuner wheels that require those fancy tuner lugs). Just look for 4x100 bolt patterns; miatas and most pre-2005 hondas and many other cars have a 4x100 bolt.
I was told that centre bore isn't a huge deal, I got them to be safer. But get the rims you want, bolt them on, drive it, drive it harder, and then slam on the brakes. If you have wobbles, wheel shakes, anything that makes you feel uneasy (other than trammling, that doesn't count, that's a normal tire issue) drive to a place that deals with aftermarket wheels, tell them you have a mini with 56.1 hub, and you have these wheels, do the math and sell me some hub rings. I paid 20 for my set of 4 plastic rings.
alrighty.. now then... about the TPMS.. is there a warning charm, or just the light? I can ignore the light, but if there's a "BING BONG" all the time (09 clubbie) its not worth it...
anyone?

You can tell them what car you have and what wheels you want to use-
They can figure out what size rings you need.
The rings come in hard plastic (Ok for street use) or alloy metal (costs $10 more per set- good for track).
Honda rims and miata rims will fit, their hub bore is larger than the MINI's 56.1mm, you just have to check the wheel offset which is usually OK.
I have seen Honda wheels 15x6 et55mm 4x100 bolt pattern.
Offset is usually marked on the inner facing side of the wheel.
