August 20, 1964, Berkeley, England....Diane and Dave were prepared (they thought) for the birth of their first son. Unfortunately they did not own a car. But, their neighbor had one and volunteered to drive them to the nearby hospital when the time came. The time came in the middle of the night. David ran two doors down and banged on the freind's front door...no answer. He banged harder...no answer. He was getting worried.....they had a couple of pints earlier, and he thought his friend was out cold in a deep lager-induced sleep. The neighbor between them heard the racket and immediately knew what was going on. He went to his interior ajoining wall to the unconsious neighbor and started banging and shouting at the wall. SUCCESS!.....the friend with the car woke up. He scrambled out of the house and helped David get Diane into the car, and rushed them to the local hospital. There, Dave and Diane had a beautiful baby boy. ME! The car, of course, was a MINI!! I only found out about this story 4 weeks ago at a family dinner, AFTER I ordered my MINI. Life's funny.
