Kicker 6.5 CVT's free air?
Has anyone done this in place of the back speakers. I've read mixed reviews of these, either love em or hate em. I've never considered a free air, but to keep cargo space to the max I think i'm going to try.
I have an 07 MCS with the "boost" non "hi-fi"

Interesting. Even if they don't perform free air, it wouldn't be too hard to make some fiberglass boxes that fit in the 6x9 holes, or use something like this:

Also, there are some 6x9 subwoofers out there:

I had planned on using one of the 6x9 to 6.5 adapters and a good layer of dynamat. I could try the baffle.. I havent gotten the rear apart yet to see if there is room to possibly modify the baffle with some glass and whether or not the 5 inch one will fit.
the goal is to use my crossfire 600d which is 600@ 1ohm.. 300@2. those 6x9's are 90w RMS.

Too bad the elemental designs 6.5 subs arent available new anymore:

Nope, I haven't taken any panels off yet. If I'm lucky, I won't have to. I plan on using the stock 6x9's run off the deck rear channels, 80hz cut an all. I'm not a huge fan of rear fill, I will use the fader to bring them in just a bit.
rough calculations not taking into account the curvature... meaning drawing 4 triangles into the opening give it about .1. with the curvature it'll add a bit. so a place to expand on one of the places depending on what will fit would be the ticket.
are you doing a traditional sub setup?

Yeah, but you are making me wish I had explored this idea more. Trunk space is precious. My limiting factor is also my amp, it puts out 1100 RMS at 1 ohm, but I wil be running it at 2 so about 550 or so. There are a bunch of pics in my build log a few posts down, I'm just finishing up the boxes.
your other thread sounds like what I wanted to do with a single L7. I'm *hopefully* going to be able to mount each amp where your boxes are. i'll have to check this otu at home, for some reason nothing loaded on the work computer.
i've always done 12's in a sealed box. had old old lightning audios in a cavalier with this amp hit 143.7db back in high school. this is definately a new way of looking at it for me. I dont want to not be able to put a ski boot bag of tool box in the boot though. These little kickers can be had on ebay for 65 a piece so even if it turns out to be not what I want I can either sell them or toss em in a box and let them collect dust. the investment wont be huge to try it.

I hear you. I have alwayd had 12's or above. 12" Resonant Enginerring SEXXX's in my old mustang, 15" Fosgate T1 in the truck.... Mini is a different story. I have a couple 8's in my 68 and really like them, so I decided to go 8" in the Mini. Plus, I'm getting old, and mostly listen to podcasts these days anyway.

The shop I used to work at did JL6.5 w3's in a clubman in the location your talking about. I never heard it but I know the w3's are a nice woofer. We did an install in a vette with 4 of them before and I was impressed by those lil 6.5's. just another option. However they do require enclosing that space. I think they used dynamat to transform the cavity into an enclosure but I am not 100% positive.
