Rear Fog Light Wired to be always on

Has anyone here wired the rear fog light directly so that it just comes on every time you start up?

Gonna avoid having to get the new toggle switch with the rear fog light option and no need for a 3rd brake light mod...

Just want it ON all the time.

I'd just like to know where to start in terms of wiring...

Thanks

Are you related to the guy who wanted to wire his driving lights to be on with low beams ?

Just checking. Not as discourteous as his request but not far from it.

Fog light. Meant to be used in the fog. In clear weather, too bright for vehicles behind you.

Thanks for reconsidering.

The rear fog light is bright. You'll look like you're driving around with a brake light permanently stuck on.

Maybe if you replace the bulb with a low wattage one, it will look more like a running light. The easiest wiring is probably to the 12V power socket in the rear (which will be powered every time you start up).

Knowing what rear fogs are and their use. It wouldnt be anything crazy probably just faulty/improper equipment aka "fix it ticket." Rear fog lights are obnoxious and distracting in clear conditions. Using them as extra brake lights sounds ok to me last thing I want is rear ended.

Agreed.
I see rear fogs on way to much. At night it can be a bit of pain having that bright light in your eyes the whole time.

...you a cop or something...

i "hard wired" my rear fog to come on with my lights. comes on with the first switch (running lights?). it was "kinda" bright, but i did put some headlight tint over mine, so its just right.

also, consider minis are fairly low, and most ppl are in SUVs or just bigger cars. i dont see how a single red rear fog during the day, or at dusk will blind you

as for how to do it, there are a few methods, and at least 1 other how to thread with pics somewhere in here (NAM). 1 method, mine, is to crawl under the car, tap into the side marker lights, and wire up the rear fog. then you can use that switch and power for something else

another method, is the "interior jumper" method. all those outer lights have a wire bundle located in the rear hatch, passenger side. you can kinda see it coming up through a gromet. i dont recall which wires are what, but once you figure that out, you can simply jumper the rear fog to the running lights wire (again, same wire as outer wheel arch light).

i think it IS a way better use of an otherwise pointless light... rear fog, really? whos looking backwards while driving in fog?! lol

It isn't for you, it's for the driver behind to see you. If you drive in scary dense fog, you'd understand and hope that car in front of you has one too.

That said, I have no objections to a rear fog used all the time if it is dimmed to the level of a running light. The factory rear fog is bright and annoying if turned on when it isn't foggy.

See your the person whom I would make an example of it is a distraction at any level regardless of its height.

Also a rear fog is there for accident avoidence in low visibility conditions.

Good idea.. i'll probably tap it into the rear side marker lights.

yup and i'll tint it so it won't be bright.

Just remembered.. one more thing...

would i need to remove my exhaust, or like unbolt it and hang it down to get into the fog? Or i can do it all without that?

FWIW, makes more sense to use a lower wattage bulb rather than a higher wattage+tint.

Lived in Europe back in the '90s. Saw a 'light' button and pushed it, as most Americans do. Couldn't understand why people kept flashing their brights at me on clear nights.
Lesson learned. Fog lights are for FOG. In EU, you'll get a ticket for running your rear fogs in clear conditions. I still don't think the populous or LEO have figured it out here...

nope, just reach up under your bumper, there are 2 tabs on the R and L of the light. push it outwards, away from the car. easy cheese.

So you're the cop who doesn't follow the rules? Nice. I don't know what the law states about use of fog lights in clear conditions, but there are unwritten rules of the road we should all abide by. Being courteous to other drivers is one.

If the guy behind you has to squint a little - which he probably does if he's not 200 yards back - the lights are too bright.

I wired mine to come on with front fogs and I'm careful not to use them on clear nights - it is fairly bright (attached)

guy who just posted above me, your lights ARE too bright! lol

but, hey, what about all these jerks with super super bright headlights? its like theyre driving w/ high beams on. then, half of those ppl are in jacked up trucks / suvs, making it even worse for the rest of us.

yes, if your "blinded" by my rear fog (which is tinted, so not that bright) your TOO CLOSE! back off!

lots of ppl have no respect for driving, hence so many pointless accidents and stupid drivers. i somewhat blame the Car manufacterers, making cars almost "too" driveable. ppl can now whip around the interstate in a freakin camry at 90+mph and they think it drives like a sports car (or a mini

ok. rants over! lol

Too funny, ABMM. A rant about people with super bright lights whose attitude is "if you don't like my bright lights, too bad". I'm guessing the other guy with the bright lights would say "I'm just trying to see better at night. If my lights bother you, your (sic) in too short of a car!"
