Yakima Q clip info?!!!

So I'm fitting this copperhead Yakima rack that was on my old Honda... picked up the 116,83 clips but there is no sign of which for front/back and no measurements :(

Anyone?

Any luck?! I ordered these, because of the Yakima site and everyone seems to be using Q78's?!

Yakima Q clip info

I bought the Q116,83 as well, but I see on the data sheet from Yakima that that is for the Countryman and I have the R53. My local bike shop ordered the parts for me and I thought they had done the proper footwork on this, but now I'm not so sure. Anything you can do to help me out would help.

I figured it out!!!

Yakima just updated on how to install their roof rack systems on 1st gen mini's! Within the last month actually. So you guys with Q78's you are still fine but the new system now mounts underneath the weather strip. Use a credit card and the new clips slide in perfectly. Q83 is front, Q116 is rear. Here are the measurements according to the Yakima rep on the phone.

M1 - 36 3/4", M2 - 4", M3 34 3/4", M4 28 1/2" or 45" which is for the Clubman.

Hope this helps!

as for putting them in, I have the same clips, you don't really need a measurement, there are zones to put them in, if you take a credit card, you can feel the zones, its like 13-14 inches from the windshield and then like 2-3ft from the hatch

I really wish I'd seen this thread sooner. I just sold my roof rack because I was never happy with the way it fit. I don't know if I misread the instructions or what, but I always put it on the car with the clips over the weather stripping/rain gutter. This method of putting it under the strip looks alot more secure and like it'd have alot less road noise. Though I was always worried that long term use of the the rack would mess up the paint on the roof. Anybody have any experience with that?

well the feet are rubber, ive had no issues with mine. I did what you did at first and I am really surprised you even had yours stay in place, mine didn't look like it would hold on at all with over the rain gutter

Mine was pretty secure, I never used it for more than a few days, so I don't know how it would have done in the long run, but pulling on the rain gutter seemed to increase the wind noise from the window which bugged me. It also seemed to me like the rubber feet tended to get dirt underneath them and leave marks on the paint which if left long enough would wear through the paint, but I never left them on for more than few days so I wasn't sure if that would actually happen or not.
