My review: Megan Short throw 04-06 for you budget builds

keep in mind this is my first review dont shoot me down too hard i was never really the scholar student in english and writing class. this review is for people like me on a budget but wont settle for ebay parts.

So tonight i was looking for a short throw shifter for my 04 jcw, keep in mind i wanted a complete shifter so ssk's were out of the question. nothing against ssk's just perfer the look of a stubby short throw. looks oh so sexyyy with a nice ****. function and form!!!

then i saw the megan short throw for 04-06.... for those not familiar with megan racing it's about a ten year old company, so fairly young. ive owned their short throw for my 240sx a couple years ago and love it without any problems. i looked up reviews on this for mini's and couldnt find a single thing. i just bought it an hour ago from their site. build quality looks nice, made completely of billet steel so i doubt itll ever break, looks almost like the famous craven but is not adjustable (ill never be adjusting it anyways), and for 80 bones it comes with a shift ****..not weighted but for 80$ you cant beat that. heres the link to what it looks like!!

now i know you "get what you pay for" but from what i know about megan and using their parts in the past i really have no problems with them. cant wait to get this and let everyone know how it goes!!
if anyone owns one of these dont hesitate to chime in!

hopefully it ships tomorrow...now time for the waiting game

It came in!

First impression not so good. The box looks like it had been taped and made up by a child, opened the box and saw the short throw loose from it's plastic packaging as if someone had opened it already... not a huge issue but c'mon, just looked careless and if I was selling things I'd never send it out like that.

No instructions, no grease, and that's probably why it was cheap. at this point I'm just hoping it fits okay and works.

I guess it's the product that matters, it looks great! shift **** is pretty nice too and has the engraving for our shift pattern on top. It's got a Nice chrome finish on the shifter and ****.

Ill try and get some pictures up tonight! Hopefully I can install it later tonight!

Saw this online today, interested to see how it performs for you.

Still doesn't look great enough to persuade me away from the full Craven Speed unit, but still. It could be nice.

heres pics of the great packaging. all i did was open the box and found my already opened short throw. on the bright side it saved me some energy opening it

fits like a champ. dont mind the mess i cleaned the car today!

the install wasnt too bad.. if you have mechanical abilities youll be fine. the only trouble i had was with removing the old shifter from the linkage...just had to really(rreally realllyy reallly) pull down on it without pinching it and/or bending, breaking it. felt like i broke it when it came off
new shifter went in a lot more smoothly, just snapped into place.

i LOVE how the shift **** feels...just wish it was weighted but i cant complain! the throw itself doesnt seem to be shortened a ton but i can tell. when i put both up next to each other the lower portion under the ball was the same length(from my understanding that's also supposed to be shorter to have a shorter throw). where it got its "short throw" was the upper portion which wasn't as long.

all in all, for 80 bucks you really cant beat it. its half the price of a craven but someday ill be buying one. just my bank isnt amazing at the moment and 180 isn't realistic to my college kid budget. i dont regret buying this one bit i like it!!

Hey,

So I bought the same one, but noticed the pivot ball on the short throw shifter was significantly smaller than the stock one. When I installed it in the housing, it was free to rattle around. I didn't think this was right, so I removed it and put the stock back on.

Did you find the same issue?

Does that shift **** come apart from the shifter or is it one single assembly?

Hey MeBoosta,

I did some digging around and learned that the MCS and MC have different shifter boxes, with different sized pivot *****. Who would have guessed!! I bought an MCS shifter box assembly to replace the one in the car right now. Problem solved!
