silly question, but...

Sorry, at work, and just thought of a question and don't want to wait til I get home tonight to try it and find out the answer...

So I've just found that playing videos off my ipod on the nav screen actually works! Not sure who wants to watch videos in their car, but, it made me think of something-

The CD player can't play DVDs, can it?! I don't remember seeing anything about it anywhere, but, it would be kind of a neat feature... Has anyone tried to pop in a DVD? i assume it wouldn't work, but, I figured I'd ask.

Sorry here too. Pleeeeese get past this idea. We don't need any more vehicles on the road being operated by people occupying themselves with their electronic diversions. We'd prefer drivers to devote their attention to the road and other vehicles in their immediate vicinity.

Well first off the car SHOULD NOT play video while the car is moving. And I may be wrong on this but I believe the parking brake has to be on for the video to play.

Next thing is that most states have adopted laws that govern where video can play in a car while it is moving and ALL of the states that have adopted these laws state that the DRIVER can not see the video. A passenger in the passenger seat may watch it though. For this reason Mercedes has come up with a special screen for the dash of their vehicles that allows for two views one from the passenger side and one from the drivers side. They call it SplitView Technology. I wish MINI would come up with something like this. It would really make life easier for many folks.

Oh yes I totally agree- I think being able to play video in a car is unnecessary and unsafe and ridiculous. (ok, fine maybe in the back seat for kids), and it's not something I want to use- I was just wondering if the technology had been incorporated.
And yes, the ipod video I tried the other day only worked with the parking brake on.
