Clicks on the door panels/Vibrations in the dash/Jingling noise the rear

So the mini sometimes, sounds like it is held together with twist ties and zip ties and glue. I am always hearing clicks in the door panel, vibrations in the dash, and a jingling/rattels when I go over bumps and cracks in the road in the rear. I usually bang on the dash to add to my frustration of the noises a hear, but it usually does not work. Why does it do this? It absolutely pisses me off when I constantly hear all these noises and rattles. Does anyone know what the causes could be and how to resolved these clicks, vibrations, rattles, jingles, etc.? thanks.

It would really help us to help you if you gave us a little more info about the car like year, options etc. Add these to you signature so you dont have to write it out every time and that would help. Big question I have - Is the car under warranty? if it is take it back and have it fixed. it should not make those noises.

I posted in the R56 Hatch Talk (2007+), so you know that it is 2007 and higher and my pic has a center exhaust, so you can see that it is an 'S'. 09 S with cold weather package.

What I always believed, was the sig is used for mods, not what came stock with the car, if that was the case everyone's sigs would be essay length.

Anyway, I have a warranty, but I will have to drop my ride off at the dealership for them to replicate the issue, and who knows that could take a week. I hate using a loaner, and they will prob come back and say I would need to spend the $125 per noise issue. Then my total is $375.

I might go and get it looked at for the whistle noise. But the vibrations are just BS, spend $25,500 and it likes to vibrate, its done this since day one. It just now taken almost 3 years for it to become annoying to me.

Yes that is true but that does not tell me what year it is and with an update across the board for these cars in 2011 a lot of things changed.

There is no real set standard. but by adding 09 MCS to your sig it does tell me that it is a 2nd Gen first release not an LCI (2011 and above) release.

you just need to be firm with the dealer ship and tell them that as it is under warranty you want it fixed. there are lots of threads here where people have had similar noise issues and the dealers have fixed it. Using a loaner is your option but may be need if you were to have it fixed and having a loaner is better than having a noisy car or at least I think so.

When you say "vibrate" do you mean the whole car vibrates. If it does while moving then it sounds like you may have an alignment problem or out of balance tire. or maybe even a clutch that is not aligned on the shaft properly.

We are here to help. So any additional info you can give will be welcomed to assist in figuring out what is up with your car.

No not that whole care vibrating. Sounds like a stick or a piece of plastic is vibrating in the door panels and in the dash.

From my research, and similar experiences in my car, there's typically loose bits in the ride that rattle. The speakers and speaker enclosures rattle, and I can definitely hear the wiring hardness for the dome light rattle. Agree, it's annoying. I've debated taking the car back to the dealer to have them look into it.

MINI's official fix for things like this is to use a bit of felt tape in the places that make noise. I figure I could do that pretty well myself, and I trust myself more than the dealership's guys.

So you actually remove the speakers and tie up the harness and plastic pieces with felt tape? How does one go about removing the speakers?

You don't need to completely remove the speakers, there's only a few spots that need to be taped. Here's a Reddit thread about it, and here's mention of the dealer kit.

I also have an 09 and the following parts "jiggle" or rattle: driver's side door lock thing, the alarm light above the tach, and something in the hach. I think it's the locking mechanism. I too was wondering if the dealer would be sympathetic to the rattles.

I have a 2010 E-Class and Mercedes takes rattles seriously. They'll take in the car without resistance and make sure the noise is gone before returning the car. I haven't had much experience with Mini dealerships, but they don't seem all that caring...

Hope you find a solution from the dealer and don't have to correct each rattle yourself!! Good luck!

I've had a few rattles taken care of via the dealer, but the rattles, or new ones, come right back. My thoughts are, just get used to it or try and fix it yourself with a more permanent solution. A combination of a stiff suspension and lots of plastic (built to meet a pricepoint), they are going to rattle.

And I quote, "... something in the hatch." That is exactly what I had making noise in the rear. I did by best of taking black electrical tape and wrapping the latch do give it some cushion with the mechanism. For the most part the clank and rattle of the rear mechanism is gone, but I still have some of something rattling.

I have a creak in my tach, when it starts to vibrate and annoy me i can touch it and make it stop. Maybe a loose screw. I may dab a little silicone glue when I install my Alta boost gauge.

I had a rattle in my drivers door mirror, but after folding it in and wiggle it several time I got it to stop.

After driving Mercedes and Volvos, the Mini is the noisiest car ever!

I had a rattle in the rear of my car which surfaced only around a certain RPM range. I could not for the life of me figure out what was causing it. It took having a couple of car guys sit in the back of my car while we were heading somewhere to point out the culprit. My actual head liner was rattling... in my 2010 Camden S... So, I pulled it down a little bit from the center-rearmost area and stuffed some foam into it. That solved the problem, however, be careful with the liner itself, as it seems only a step above cloth-covered cardboard. In other words, you can crease/crack it easily if you put too much stress on it.

Also, I brought it in to the dealer a couple times to get door/speaker rattles fixed *under warranty*. There is no reason for them to deny fixing a problem like this, and I think the best approach is with kindness and tact, but if they tell you "no", then you must be firm. Anyway, the fixes didn't really help much but the dealer said they "replaced a few broken clips", which didn't make any sense, considering the car was only a year old... why would the break? The rattles were less prominent, but I was left with a cricket noise in my right door whenever I'd go over bumps at low speeds and with the radio off.

Finally, if you want to get rid of all of your rattles and quiet up your MINI, follow this thread: http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...n-sds-pwk.html

Good luck!

Thought they banished the rattles when they made the R56. Guess not. Oh well.

I am going to have to check the headliner, that may be what is rattling or banging in the rear when I am traveling over bumps at high speeds.

So why did you sell your Cooper?

@Bilbo: R56s are notorious for rattles. Based on my experience, every single R56 I have sat in happens to rattle more than every R50 and R53 that I've been in. The door arm rests are the worst... So junky!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the next generation of MINIs, as they will be based on the 1-series platform and will have more of the BMW/German influence rather than British influence, so the overall build quality will be better. Not trying to hate!

@Speed: Sold it mainly because it was just too expensive for my poor college student budget. It was costing more than my rent! And that didn't even include gas or parking costs! Plus, I am excited for the F56 to come out with all of the new improvements and latest technology.

While I did love my Camden, I bought it at 1 year old and it lacked a few key features that really bring up the fun factor (sunroof, sport suspension, E-LSD). I sure do miss it though! Every time I see a MINI, I get nostalgic and a little sad.
