....knowing your brand new cooper s is sitting at the dealer waiting for you to pick it up but you can't b/c you haven't sold your existing car yet. grrrr!

i have a 2004 dark grey/white mcs with every package and option (sans navigation and parking distance thingy) waiting for me....

i just have to sell my jetta to use as a down payment! if anyone knows someone who wants to buy a 2000 jetta GLS 1.8t auto. with only 25k miles, let me know! its on ebay right now (dark blue/grey).

the sooner i sell that, the sooner i get my mini!

damn the wait is hellish!

I'll be in a similar situation soon. My backup plan is CarMax. I went and got an offer from them. They don't pay great, but they offered more than I owe. And they seem to go nuts over low milage cars, for obvious reasons. But, until my MINI actually arrives, I'm sticking with autotrader.com.
Good luck!

thanks....

i was dreading going to carmax (i went there for my last car)... they work great if you are in a REAL hurry, but they don't offer you squat for your car.

i have had my vehicle in auto trader and car soup for a month now, and NO calls... not even ONE. i lowered the price 3 times and had "or best offer" next to it each time.... the second time was lowering it to blue book value (i had it over that originally for negotiation purposes), and now i've lowered it to under blue book value.... still NO calls.

ebay got me a lot of calls and emails, but still not what i want for it and carmax would pay more i'm sure. in fact i think i will go there tonight, dunno.

i just with people locally weren't so cheap.....

and after waiting 4 and a half months for this mini.... its aggravating!

Carmax will give you wholesale and so will your dealer. In Pa. if you trade in your car , you pay sales tax on the cash difference. I would look at all the angles , sometimes the highest price is not so in the end
Good luck-ahh just trade the Jetta and get on with it

Have you tried selling to used car dealerships, or used car auctions, or even approach a VW dealer and ask if they need any topping up of their used car inventory. I've seen new car dealers buy private-sale cars and then sell them on their lot. Some new car dealers are always looking for used cars. Ya never know. Or make some flyers up and stick 'em everywhere........where there's lots of people passing through, like malls, stores, libraries, whatever. Go all out. I think everyone here who has their MINI knows how you feel about waiting. My 3 month wait was harsh. I was climbing the walls. Better luck with the sale of the V-Dub.
Cheers,

I just have to sell my 91 Ford Escort with 212,000 miles on it. What would CarMax offer?

If you live in CA (anywhere really, but its very popular in CA) craigslist.org is a free place to post. I got tons on calls from there for my old pickup.

Sorry to hear about your dilema, I just sold my 2000 VW VR6 Jetta and ended up making $2250 more than the dealer offered. I just got lucky, I had a sign in my car for about three weeks and a guy from around the corner saw it walking his dog. After one drive he decided to buy it and told me I could hold on to it until my MCS arrived! I really lucked out. I'll be picking up my new MCS next week! Good Luck.

Hang in there. I was going to trade in my '95 Jetta for the MINI. The dealer wasn't offering much, but I had tried to sell the Jetta for months with no luck. The day before I picked up the MINI, someone bought my Jetta.
Selling cars sucks, especially when your MINI is ready and waiting.

SQUAT....I'd say.....seriously though I have sold two cars to CarMAx a 97 Suburban in 99 and another 96 Suburban in 98. both deals were pretty fair and better than trade in. Hate trading in cars cuz i feel like I am being raped.....I did trade in my old patrol car for my Mini but considering what I'd paid (ex co car) and what I got, I was SMILING a LOT.....trade it, sell it to Car Max ANYTHING is better than sitting around being frustrated......

thanks for the help guys.... I SOLD THE CAR! woo-hoo.....

blue book on this car was 11,500..... Carmax offered me $10,500... i was pleasantly surprised b/c i thought they were going to offer me 9000.... but anyway, this one girl who was fishing for it earlier bit when i lowered the price to 11,500... she haggled me down, offering 11000, and we settled at 11,250. so i'm just under blue book, not bad. she will wire the money tomorrow and i will then overnight a check to the dealership. (thats why i couldn't trade the car in - dealership is in florida, i am in texas.... friend is driving it from there to here).

look forward to getting it, hopefully i will have as much fun as you guys! thanks for the support!

Glass raised high, and a congratulatory toast of MINI greatness is sent your way. Way to go man. Good times are on their way.
Cheers,
