Mtts / 5280 2012

I thought I'd re-start the MTTS / 5280 thread.

Anyone committed to this, partial or all the way to CA, as I am?

Let's start coordinating the group..

Onward & Upward,

Chris

Good plan, I have signed up for MTTS with potential for 2 cities, Boulder and down New Mexico way.

No details have been posted by the folks of MTTS, thus I am a bit disappointed.

Keep this thread alive and we shall see what we can do as a Club, I will be in Boulder and I will be riding down to ABQ, if the route is reasonable.

I printed the route from www.minitakesthestates.com and it looks like the Boulder to Abq route is 400+ miles of Interstate -25.

If we have a group / consensus we could map out an alternative trail..

Yup, we should not do I25 to ABQ, perhaps a valley run, might cause us to be a bit late for the party in ABQ, but not to late.

I agree with LV, let the planning begin.

Good Day… Were doing the entire crossing in my 1966 Austin Cooper S. Would be fun to see if anyone could keep up with us ;-) See my thread in “Classic Mini Talk” (Mini takes the States 2012 = Any classic Mini’s from Los Angeles?)

Rich and I will only be able to make it to Albuquerque from Boulder...probably in 1 MINI. We also need to find CHEAP but clean accommodations Keep me updated.

Just doing a quick Google map with directions and telling it to avoid highways and tollways, and then choosing the one that looks to have the most twisties gives this route. Says it is 10 hours and 5 mins at 507 miles, compared to the i25 route which is 7 hours and 38 mins at 475 miles. So both will require any MINI to have to fill up on gas once at least.
Boulder to Alb

Rich, great job, looks like fun, I'm in..

Jamie: You're gonna go all the way, aren't you? To CA that is?

OceanMINI: Sounds like you're doing a loop from SoCal to CO and back?
You're welcome to caravan with us if you'd like.

Hmm been thinking about this...

I know the I-25 route is boring but I kind of would like to ride with ALL the MTTS MINIs in a group to Albuquerque. The evening event in Albuquerque is 7pm - 9:30pm. Would the "alternate route" get us in, in time (we'd have to leave Boulder no later than 9am on Thursday)? I would hate to miss the MINI events because then what's the point of going to ABQ?

Don't know if I am up for an alternate 10 hour drive...even if it is in a MINI. Do BLU and RUDEBOX need to drive separately?

Or......why don't we get out of Colorado on I-25 and then find an alternate route once we get into New Mexico? We never get a chance to explore their roads.

Thoughts? Ideas? Comments?....Money?

Sounds like a good alternate plan, only 1 extra gas stop for us MINIs and lunch in a small town.

I like it.

Don

Let the mapping begin.

Of course Mary & Mike, we are going the other way! Have a family reunion at Lake Okoboji, Iowa! So we are hitting the Lincoln, NE (Land of Big Red) stopover for MTTS! I guess we will send off our C.O.R.N. friends off to Boulder!!!! Please continue to treat them well! - White Wheel Washer

Teena, I suspect that many drivers will want to hop off of I-25 at some point to enjoy the more scenic and twisty roads. There should be plenty of MINIs on Hwy 64W towards Santa Fe and ABQ.

It's my understanding that the routes shown on the MTTS website are simply the most direct, but that maps with alternate routes and suggested stops will be available at the morning rallies. I do know that a MINI rep spent a couple of days scouting roads in Iowa with a club member from Des Moines to draw up such a map.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in Boulder -- and Mike and Mary in Lincoln!

I think that this will work out well, a healthy balance of MTTS participation and the MINI 5280 Spirit .

We have quite a few creative minds and experienced route planners at the helm to get us to New Mexico on some beautiful, scenic roads and playful twisties

To be continued..

I am planning to make the run from Boulder to Albq. Any route is fun. I remember taking a back way from Santa Fe to Albq. I will have to see if I can find the route. I still nee to register but I will do that this week.

So about Routes

I like the idea of alternate routes, I like the idea of going via Raton since I like the area around Trinidad and Raton Pass.

So at Raton, I think we could do this. MAP MAP

We might even meet up with the MTTS folks in Santa Fe, if now we will get into ABQ in good time.

Thoughts?

Don

That route sounds perfect, as that is the way I go to my Mom's house (Angelfire)(about 5 hours from Longmont to Angelfire).
BTW bring bug remover as this route will kill a ton of grasshoppers(see below).
