Needs suggestions on door card moisture proofing

Hi all --

I bought a a set of new door cards for my Mk3 MIni (it has roll-up windows). I want to install them, but would like some suggestions on how to moisture-proof them so I don't get water damage on the back side of the door cards.

Has anyone here done this? Any advice is appreciated!

Jeff

it should not be necessary but if I was going to go for it I would simply lay a couple of coats of polyurethane on the exposed side... Simple clear coat or clear top coat . . . I'd lay it on heavy . . .

Pull the door panel (card) off and clean the door itself really good. Then get some clear plastic (heavy) and spray some plastic adhesive on the door, then attach the plastic, then trim it to fit. You have to keep the moisture (washing the car, etc.) from contacting the cardboard (door card). This happens usually at the bottom of the door card.

Let me know when you want to do it, I have all the necessary stuff!

I agree about the plastic sheeting; that's what many modern manufacturers do. I think I would use an adhesive that will peel off without too much pulling so you can still gain access if you need to work on the window or door mechanisms.

How about spraying the adhesive onto the door card and attaching the sheeting to the door card instead of attaching it to the door? That would prevent the moisture from getting into the door card material but still allow access to the door internals.

Just a thought ...
