Michelin Pilot Super Sports - I'm In Love!

Oh my my my....

these tires are stupidly good, I've been driving just for the sake of making corners at amazing speeds. So far the ride has been amazing, the noise has very low, and the grip has been like nothing I've ever had the pleasure of riding on, they have now stepped ahead of my previous favorites, Kumho XS.

Excellent choice

Just wait until you get caught in a very heavy downpour. The Michelins just do not hydroplane.

I have the Michelin Exalta PE2's and they are excellent

I want some PSS too. How much can you sell basically new runflats that come with the car for?

I bought 215/45R17s. It was significantly lower cost than the 205R45/17.

I did get the pleasure of testing it out in heavy rain this morning and they did inspire confidence

I wonder why the 215's were less expensive than the 205's? They sure are a beefy looking tire and look GREAT on your JCW!

Like others I've heard nothing but rave reviews. They just look right as well! I can't wait to ditch my stock RF's and get some of these. Only downside to them that I see is the price but with Michelins you get what you pay for!

Friend has these on his GTI....they stick like glue, yet ride very comfortable.

They will be my next tire for sure

OMG!
New member here... I have a 2010 S Hardtop, with 22000 miles and had been struggling with what tires to replace the originals with. Finally decided on Pilot Super Sports.

One word! AMAZING!

It rides like no Mini I have ever been in, it turns like never before, all of the groove tracking is gone, even reduced torque steer... They are expensive, SPEND THE MONEY!

Like commented above, I went with the 215/45/17 on stock wheels. Filled the wheel wells nicely, no clearance issues, and they are less $$$$

I know BMW and Mini love run flats, this tire cures all the little things that can be annoying on a performance sport sedan. I will be telling everyone that ask about my car, CHANGE THE TIRES THE FIRST DAY!

I'm pretty close to ordering the Kumho Ecsta 4x in 215/45/17 for $88.50/ea + shipping, but was wondering what to do about the runflats on it now...were you able to sell them? The ones I have (ContiPro SSR) retail for about $240...would it be unreasonable to expect $150/ea? They have about 4k miles on them.

Can't help you on the takeoffs

Sorry, have no idea what take offs would bring, after 22k I was past due... Just took me awhile to decide on what to buy. Unfortunately I think take offs are just take offs and don't bring much unless your selling wheels and all???

I've sold used tires in the past for decent prices (for useful tires). Try 50% off to start. There are people out there that will pay reasonable prices for tires with little wear but don't expect to get a lot. 50% is probably a VERY long shot but folks who know would be happy to pay so little for a good tire when they compare them to what things cost brand new.

Concerning the Pilot SS. The price difference between the 205's and 215's is crazy in my opinion with over $100 difference. That makes choosing the 215's a no brainer for me! I was expecting to pay way more.

Tom,

I'm going to purchase a set of these soon. From what you said (reduced torque steer, groove tracking gone), they sound like they perform great which is what I've read in just about every review I've found.

Couple quick questions concerning performance aside from the above. What size and type of tires did you have on the car prior to mounting these? Has going to 215's affected handling negatively, ie. more roll in the turns, etc? I'm assuming not but thought I'd ask. One other area of concern for me is I lowered my JCW about 1.4" with some NM springs and I don't want any rubbing of course.

I really want to go up a size from the stock 205 to the 215's but I don't want to sacrifice crisp handling. Of course anything will beat these Dunlop RF's that came standard on my JCW.

Thanks for any insight you can add!

Oem

I had the original Continental OEM Runflats 205/45/17. My car has the same lowering as yours and no clearance issues. As for handling, to me the car feels more on rails and way more hooked up. Interesting is how the tire improves the ride but seems to increase handling.

Here is a pic with the new tires, wheel wells look much more filled in. I have a colored aero kit so it is a stark change from the smaller tires.

Recommend an alternate?

EXACTLY what I wanted to hear! Thanks and that's a damn fine looking MINI. Those tires do fill out the wheel well's very nicely!

Finally wore out the Conti run flats. Getting a set of Pilot Super Sports installed on Thursday. Can't wait. Should be like getting another car from the sound of the reviews from everyone.
I'll let you know!

I will probably be picking up a set of these for my Enkei's once the tires from the previous owner wear out.

I've got a set of PSS on order, and I can't wait to try them on my R58 S! Just reading all the reviews both here and elsewhere online, these will be the best tires to replace the damned Potenza RE050A RFTs that came with my car.

As long as the Michelins can smooth out the terrible roads I have to drive each day (rough surfaces, frost heaves, etc.), and they ride more quietly than the stock RFTs (I literally have a headache from the road noise if I have to drive more than twenty minutes), I'm absolutely sold and can't wait to have them installed this weekend!

Economies of scale. There are more applications in the 215/45 size than 205/45.
