Tad bit worried...

Well I bought this car last week and I love it, but i am worried about the 123k miles this 09 mini s has on it vs the longevity of it. It is completely stock and I plan to keep it that way for now. I avoid speed contests but i am very intrested in the modifications of this car. Well basically i just want to know what i'm in for with this higher mileage vehicle. Most people on here have either posted about what they broke from over use (aka tune + kung fu magic foot to the floor acceleration = boom). I do see from searching that catch can is very nice to have, but like i said this vehicle is higher miles and highway driven. should i worry about this carbon build up? I apologize for the ramble, but just wondering hwat preventions I should take before i get over zealos and modify such a high miled mini and pop the motor from who knows what.

With the highway mileage, you have little or less build up from those making just short trips or have "grandma'ed driven" the car.
Sure, you can easily add a catch can to your system to reduce the oil vapor condition even more.

Regular and preventative maintenance will premote good running performance on the vehicle.
Make sure to change oil often and keep an eye on the level of oil.
Almost all failures / problems with the powertrain fall back on low oil or low frequency change intervals.

I think BlueFox hit it on the head.

You might have the dealership print out the work history. Find out if the timing chain tensioner has been replaced. Common or at least seems to be a common issue with the 07's thru 09's.

I'd also change out the timing chain tensioner.

I agree, unless it's been done recently - just good cheap insurance....

BTW, you only came here after you bought the car?

Little late now, isn't it?

BTW, putting your foot to the floor does not blow up the motor unless there are other things wrong with it. Mine's seen enough track days to prove that - although I don't have 120K on it yet....

Wow? 123K mile on an 09? 41k/yr avg. That's a lot of driving. I have only 36,000 trouble free miles on my 09. You have given me renewed confidence in my MINI that I have a long way to go. Before this I would have never bought a used MINI with that kind of mileage. Whatever the previous owner did, keep it up!
