According to my OBC I am gettint 37.7 MPG's, which I think is great. I usually fill up when I have 3 or 2 candy corns left. I get around or close to 500 miles on a tank. At what point do you fill up? I've heard of folks running dry even with a candy corn still lit, so not taking any chances!

 

I never let my tank go below half full on either one of my cars.

 

Pulled a 600 mile tank two fills ago. The last trip was annoying--the electronics really don't like you to get that low on fuel.

I'm aiming for 600 with two carrots left this time. We'll see, but so far the miles-to-go readout is telling me I should get 700 on the whole tank, so 600 at 2 carrots should be doable.

Not sure how many miles I got on a tank- but I am averaging 38.3 mpg- which I am quite impressed with. Of course, I drive like a little old lady, and my Mini is a non S stick shift, so that probably helps a bunch.

 

I fill up when the light comes on. I never wanna chance it, no matter how much gas is left (which is usually around 2.5 gallons by the time I hit a gas station). I haven't had my MINI very long, so I'm still trying to grasp the better mileage that a manual gets :P Best I've gotten is about 29, I believe, with almost 400 miles on the tank. Hubby is getting around 35-36 mpg with well over 400 miles on the tank. I gotta take some pointers!

So glad there are others out there like me that are pushing their MINI's to get the best mileage possible. I just got a new one-tank high yesterday, but it wasn't easy.

@slave to felines: how did you get 600 miles from one tank??? That is AWESOME. What did you do?

@holly1: 38MPG is nothing to sneeze at. That's great. Averaged 39 from my last tank...and that's when I was hypermiling like crazy to break my record.

@GigglesMcMINI: I fill up usually at one "candy corn'. I do push it though (probably more than I should). But, I have never run out of gas and that is with the computer telling me I have only a 10 mile range left.

 

I got 600 miles by driving no more than 55 MPH on the freeway, accelerating moderately, doing the "pulse and glide" routine, shutting off my car at all but the shortest stops, not slowing down for corners (WHEE!!!), and driving until the low fuel warning drove me bonkers.

The last one wasn't purely intentional--I decided I was filling up at one particular station on my way to work, and found that under ~30 miles of range on the display results in more warnings than I was comfortable with. I am now trying to fill when I still have two red carrots, not after. I'm hoping to hit 600 miles at that point with my next tank. We'll see...

 

That's awesome. Now I want to see if I can get close to 600! But after my last experiment...I need some fun time with the MINI first!
