Anyone try them? thoughts?

Looks like a good alternative to Sylvania H13SU?

Maybe, but Silverstar are awful, so that's not a very encouraging comparison. I had Silverstar on my Jetta. It did nothing for visibility, and burned out much faster. They increase the output of the lamp to make up for the "blue blocker" coating on the bulbs. End result is a coated bulb that puts out similar light to OE, but doesn't last as long. I'd personally stay away from any bulb with a coating.

this is their description of the bulbs.

ORACLE HOD Bulbs Increase Night Time Visibility the Safe and Easy way!
Get the Look of HID for a Fraction of the Cost.
Easy to Install! Simply Remove your Existing Bulb and Replace it with the HOD.
The Bulbs Include a High-Wattage Harness to Safely Increase the Bulb Watts.
"SUPER-WHITE" 5500K Color Kelvin

From their website
ORACLE HOD Bulbs give you the look of HID headlights for a fraction of the cost and installation easy enough that anyone can do it. These 55W bulbs are Xenon gas charged (opposed to Halogen gas charged) which produces a brighter and more brilliant light while extending the life of the bulb's filament.

Xenon gas charged opposed to Halogen?

I'm NOT the expert on lighting. Just a skeptical consumer. It sounds like a marketing ploy to me. Regardless of the gas inside the capsule, it's still a filament bulb, not "arc" technology, like an HID xenon.

But at the price they are offering it at, it's not a huge risk to try and see.

True, i'm skeptical as well, was hoping I didn't have to be the guinea pig! in reading from other forums, specifically Camaro and Charger forums, the output is good but not too much talk about longevity.

Well if the bulb actually functions better, shorter life is acceptable, in my opinion. The problem is that I saw no benefit from the Silverstar other than looks (and they did look nice). Granted the Mk4 Jetta has what have to be the worst headlights stock of any car I've driven. Worse than halogen sealed beams, even. So maybe I'm not the one to be criticizing. You would think that any bulb would improve the Jetta, but maybe it's so horrid, that nothing can be done for it. Seriously, at night in the rain, I'd often check the switch to see if they were even on.

I would be very careful. if these actually do have xenon gas in them they will be hotter temperature wise and very well may cause a problem with the light housing melting.

Other people have put in higher wattage bulbs or bulbs that run hotter and have melted the housings. This would not be good for you as then you would have to replace them at your expense and they are rather expensive.

Yes they do say they come with high wattage harness and that protects the actual connector from melting but does nothing for the housing.

Personally I would not chance it and possible end up spending another $600+ on new housings.

Thank you, I will keep that in mind. I have read quite a few forums, (other than Mini forums) and no one has complained about housings melting so far. That is not to say that the Mini's housing would not but it's definitely a good sign. Will post pics and thoughts after i install.
