Staying at Fontana during 2012 MOTD - What to expext for newbies

Just got this from Fontana Village Resort and I'm passing it on to newbies:

"Getting Here
If this is your first visit to Fontana Village Resort, there are a couple items we would like you to be aware of. First, we are located in a very remote area of the Western North Carolina Mountains. As such, if at all possible, we recommend that you plan your trip to arrive during daylight hours. The mountain roads can be somewhat intimidating to the uninitiated. If you plan to be with us for a few days, we recommend you do at least some of your grocery shopping before getting here. While we do have a General Store onsite that is open from spring to fall, as well as two full service cocktail lounges, the nearest grocery store is 30 minutes away and the nearest ABC store is forty-five minutes away.

We look forward to your visit and if there is anything we can do in preparation for your arrival, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Regards,

Fontana Village Reservations"
Above is an extract from Fontana village resort reservation confirmation memo.

For those that are unaware Graham County is dry. Meaning that you may purchase individual drinks from licensed facilities but you cant go pick up a case of beer, bottle (or box!) of wine or bottle of liquor anywhere. So be sure to allocate a little space in the MINI to your favorite beverage to enjoy once you are back at Fontana for the night.

They do have some beer at the general store, but it's expensive and yucky.

Another note about Fontana, not everyone there is for MOTD. Although 90% of the people around you will be driving MINIs, talking MINI, buying MINI, thinking MINI, there will be some people that are just there for fun, and didn't look too closely at the calendar when they made their reservation.

A lot of hikers, and people just looking not wanting to be a part of the MOTD adventure will be on foot and also driving around. So remember, we are representing our brand, and be nice to the non-MINI folk (as strange as they may be).
