I got a stuby from gobadges.com I like the look, but it cut the reception down on the FM radio. See attached.

So I ask all of you that changed out to a stubby, why not just put a screw in there and call it good? Do you still use your FM radio???

Just curious.

This is a helpful discussion. Back in May I needed to replace my factory antenna and I went with the basic original equipment replacement mainly because of my concern about loosing reception. I have always believed that the antenna length was critical to FM reception. I live far enough outside Boston that I need a good antenna if I hope to get the channels I like to listen to on occasion. It sounds like I made the right decision as the shorter antennas don't have the range for at least FM.

I find this quote from Craven Speed's website interesting:

"This rigid antenna replacement will not affect any satellite services such as On-Star, GPS or Sirius Radio.
Please note: Although most customers report their reception to be as good as stock, some have trouble with the full bandwidth in their areas."

I got the quote from http://www.cravenspeed.com/products/...y-Antenna.html

So of coarse it doesn't' change On-Star, GPS or Sirius Radio, that is because those devices don't use the FM antenna. :-)

"Some have trouble with the full bandwidth in their areas" A politically correct way of saying, your reception will be worse. lol

I don't have any FM problems with the "Nubby" I posted above here in SoCal (Orange and Los Angeles County most of the time), but I'm in a city and/or rural area with no mountains.

Now the Satellite reception is a whole different story. It cuts out all the time at specific places every time. It did that before the Nubby was installed and obviously has nothing to do with the Nubby. I really like a few of the Sirius radio channels, but the constant cutouts are very annoying!

Oh yeah, and the swapping between HD radio and normal radio in some areas is a real PITA!!! (also not Nubby related)

The satellite can cut out if blocked say from large buildings, and you need to be next to them, or a large mountain and you are close to it, otherwise you should never have satellite cut out.

On the HD radio and normal radio swapping, that CAN be nubby related. If an HD station gets weak, it will drop HD, and switch to normal. A better antenna will lessen the swapping in and out.

That may be true, but it did it WORSE with the OEM antenna, so maybe I'm staying on non-HD radio now and don't get the crazy swapping in and out; which is fine with me and much better on your psychi. Happened mostly in the Santa Clarita Valley area in north Los Angeles county.
