Any other R57 owners having issues with cracks/ pieces falling off the plastic lens of the LED 3rd brake light strip ? Mine is a mid 2009 buildcar but was only registered mid 2010 and spends almost all the time in sheltered parking.

A few months after I got the car, I noticed a small broken piece at the edge of the lens where it meets the rubber seal. Carefully glued the piece back and forgot about it. Today I noticed a half inch sized piece of a different edge missing also where the lens meets the rubber seal.

I have found the part number (54342758124, around $100) and think the LED light unit comes off for replacement by undoing 4 hex bolts but am wondering if the replacement is also going to be as short lived and I should just live with it until more pieces fall off ?

 

I haven't had this. It was about a year ago that I removed the 3rd brake light as part of a Pulsar brake kit install. No pieces though. Can you post photos?

This is unusual so hopefully a new light fixes the issue.

 

I also have a 2009 and cannot imagine how the 3rd brake light could get a crack unless you whacked it with something. I have the pulsar also but I put it in the left fender.
