New GP on the horizon

I have a one year old and looking for a more 'family' friendly car and actively surf the web for fun sedans daily. Now, after getting reassurance that we can keep the GP............maybe two is better than one.

This comes out! http://www.autoblog.com/2012/03/28/m...otted-testing/

Forget the sedan.

If they would use the N20 motor in it, they'd have a winner...

20 seconds faster around the ring than the original GP........ I think you need it Steve. I am buying a GP next week by the way, I will let you know when I get it. Don't tell Leon, I want to surprise him as I am pretty sure he thinks I am nuts!!!!! I hope you get the new one, that would be awesome. I should have never ridden in your car at garage day!

Congratulations!!! JDUR56.....It will be awesome to see another GP in the Burgh.
No two-seaters for me for a while. A little nuts is good though.
First track day of the year next week and the GP will be there. You will have to try it out on the track sometime, Beaverun? is a great track for that car. You'll make plenty of friends.
And, not a word to Leon.

Something tells me you can overboost the current JCW and lighten it enough that you will come pretty close to the new GP. Something you couldn't really do with the older R53 since they did a lot of internal upgrades that were meant for the newer R56 that made the current GP more special. Nothing like the original. With everything that comes out now, they have to compensate with more power b/c all the cars just keep getting heavier and heavier.

I do hope they do something special like throw in a bigger twin scroll turbo or much larger intercooler and strip down the car even more.

Will the the second gen GP have an A/C? That would shed more weight too.

Could you elaborate? What internal upgrades were included in the R56 that originated in the GP?

Thanks

??? The R-56 motor is taken whole from the Peguot 207 GTI . There is nothing shared with the powerplant from the R -53.

I meant the rear arms, the R56 front brakes, and the aero underpaneling.

Yes those parts are correct, usually not termed " internals " however, which is why we were curious as to your meaning .

Do we have any Mini dealers who "lurk" these boards? I was about to send my sales manager a note to see what he knows...

I wonder when the line will start forming? : )

Not sure about a line this time around . The big rush for the R-53 GP was by those that thought of it as an investment more than a driver . As that did not pan out you really won't have the investor types to deal with but more of the actual driving enthusiasts looking to buy.

We have a long way to go before a MINI Sales Manager will have any information about the R56 GP.

First, MINI needs to formally announce the car. This is anticipated to occur at (or shortly before) MINI United in May.

Then later, MINI USA will announce the US specifications, US MSRP, on-sale date, and total units.

Some time after that, the dealerships will receive their individual allocations and then they can begin to take orders and talk price.

If you have a good relationship with your local Sales Manager, you may be able to get in the queue now and leave a deposit. At best, this will assure you a future place in line, or at least a first right of refusal, once the above milestones have been reached.
