Recommend a good Independent shop/mechanic in IL
Hi all,
I finally got the MINI that I wanted 2002, stick with low miles (63k) last December. Thing is, I suddenly started to notice some "chatter/shuddering" coming off 1st and or 2nd gear sometimes, more noticeably when driving for awhile this February. The previous owner mentioned that he had the clutch replaced in his care. And so I went through the service record invoices again and found that while the recommendation back then was to replace both clutch and flywheel he declined it and after a few thousand more kilometers had to fix his clutch, ended up only replacing the clutch kit. Long story short, I have a quote from both a local dealer in my area and one other independent shop. Both seem pretty high. I wanted to find a good independent shop/mechanic I can work with for the rest of the life of my car and I thought I'd run it by this forum. Any suggestion would be really great, thanks! (prefer in the Lake County area) but will go pretty much anywhere 30-40 miles within the greater Chicago area. Thank, again!

I stopped by the shop where I used to take my Volvo S60R because they also work on Mini. Turns out they have a guy there who is a serious Mini enthusiast, who had lots of good info for me. He gave me at least 30 minutes of his time just to pick his brain, and I came away with a good impression.
