Real World Numbers - 2012 MCS mpg
I have scene posts in the past on MPG figures, so I thought I would toss this one in the mix.
I just did a round trip from Denver to Phoenix running 2000 miles. The car is an MCS, 6 speed, aftermarket exhaust, 16" factory all season tires, temps 30's mountains, 70's desert - left town with 1300 miles on the odo. Changed oil @ 500 using Mobil 1 5/50. Most important, a fresh coat of wax!
On the highway I ran 80 mph with the cruise set and netted 31 mpg over all. It seemed that once you went over 65, MPG dropped - otherwise I think that 35 MPG would have been the figure.
Here is the cool thing. Normally I drive a '06 Lexus GS300 AWD for my road trips, which I find to be a great car. I make this drive often, and the GS will yield 32MPG on the same route... BUT, the MINI was more comfortable to me on this drive. The seats seemed to offer better support for my back, and the MINI doesn't offer 12 way adjustment!
The only kicker that was a total negative was the aftermarket exhaust... Magnaflow muffler SUCKS! There was soooo much drone that my ears rang like the aftermath of a rock concert! I couldn't wait for a downhill run for sound relief. I will put the OE back on for the next run if my next AF one still carries the drone.
All-in-All, the MINI is an awesome car for around town and running the US Super Slabs! More long distant road trips in my future....

I've been consistently getting 30mpg in mine. Bone stock, 6 speed. Mixed driving between highway and back roads, with some city thrown in.
edit: I was hoping for a little better mpg. My 09 Justa got 40mpg all day long with identical driving.

I'm beginning to think that the aero on our cars is somewhat compromised. My mileage seems to drop pretty quickly over about 60 MPH.
Working on low 40s so far, and hoping that my current tank gets up into the high 40s.

What you don't look me up when your in town
I'm glad to see you had a good trip

Great to have real world feedback, thanks for the fact-filled post!
My CX-7 (2.3 Turbo 4) was similar w/r/t higher velocity & mpg hit: 28-30 during 55-65 mph freeway commutes, as low as 17-18 on 75-85 western highways. Fast transit, but more $$.
We're planning some longer trips in our MINI once it's home, 2 people and at least one of our 3 GSDs. MTTS, MITO and maybe a run to North Shore MN, we'll see.

My lifetime average is right at 30.8 MPG. I drive it like a complete idiot...lol I was driving up the Jersey Turnpike a couple of weeks ago, and watched the lifetime average go up... It went from 30.4 to 30.8 Go figure.
it goes in to the dealer on Monday to have the waterpump recall fixed. Hope I actually get the notice before then...

I have posted before but here are my numbers. Interstate hwy travel on relatively flat land (OH, IN, KY, Western PA) at an average of 70 mph yields 37-38 mpg. Daily driving (mix of city streets and hwy) yields 32 mpg at an average speed of 34 mph. Also, in doing real world math calculations I find the obc to be generally pretty accurate. To the OP, I found my mileage increased after ogging the first 2K miles on the clock.
11 months into ownership, I have determined that my MCS is a pretty damned good piece of personal transportation. Small, light, fuel efficient, comfortable and very fun to drive.

Next time your out on the interstate try this out. Match speeds with a semi, trail him a safe, comfortable distance for the speed you are traveling. Put your obc on consumption rate and switch lanes.
You don't have to tailgate to draft in a Mini. I got 43.8 mpg on a tank from Hanksville Ut to Ely Nv. Lots of downhill into the Great Basin, and a fast moving truck as a wind break. My obc listed over 600 miles projected on the next tank.
Didn't make that. Went a little more scenic.

I average 36MPG.. and I am fully bolted and tuned with no emissions control on the car and make 221WHP.. I get 39-41MPG @ 72-74MPH on the freeway.
I get on it from time to time to.. but i use a lot of cruise control. Even heavy city driving I can stay near 34-35MPG.. I dont know what more people want?
If you are worried about your MPG.. dont drive. My MINI gets amazing MPG for car capable of a calculated ET of 13.1@101MPH. I would say the MPG is pretty good for an FI car..

My car started at 32MPG and has gotten better every week since I took delivery. Last fill up was 36.4MPG, thats about 60% highway speeds usually around 70-75, and the rest is back roads, where I spend about half the time driving it kinda hard. We had a Honda Insight hybrid in work that I looked at the dash computer yesterday, 32mpg What a crime, bad enough you look like George Jetson in it, then thats the best mpg you can get?
Hybrids and electric cars are only really helpful in city driving and sitting in traffic. Otherwise give me a diesel. MINI hurry up and give me a diesel engine option. Preferably the 200HP 2 liter 1 series BMW motor.
There's no doubt diesel's provide for improved mpg, but when you factor in the higher price of diesel fuel, at least in my part of the world, you're really not saving any money. I'll stick with my MCS as it is, thank you.

When I had my 2011 I was getting around 30 - 32 with mixed driving and bone stock. My GTI now gets around 25-30 depending on how I drive it.
Over 12 tanks since taking delivery:
Lifetime Average: 31.7 MPG
Max: 33.66
Min: 27.19
I generally drive it like I stole it.
31.7 is about 10MPG more than the Ranger I traded in, so it's cool.
Edit: MPG is calculated based on Trip ODO/Gallons added at fill up. The onboard computer generally reads 1-2 MPG higher.
