Advice on power steering pump

Long story short- Power steering went out a few nights ago on my drive home. Came back a few hours later (after sitting a while). Fluid in the res, fluid on the bottom of the pump, and now I am getting a faint whine from the pump (think Ford) as of this morning.

My question (an the reason for posting here), would you think Hendrick will think of it as something that needs replacing, or just give me the line - "we can't seem to replicate the issue" and send me on my way only for it to go kaput in a few days/weeks.

This will be my first real interaction with them and I have a terrible track record with dealers in general.

Depends; is your car still under warranty? If not, they will likely tell you that it needs replaced, as your description is consistent with how these pumps fail.

I have not had any problems dealing with them, not to say you won't. Call the service department and talk with Dana, see what she thinks.

Mine did the on and off thing for a few months until it finally just stopped working for awhile. Then one day when i was on the highway it turned back on again all the sudden and wouldn't turn off even when i turned the car off. Then i had to unplug my battery every time i got in and out of my car otherwise it would drain my battery. I just finally got it replaced and all together it was about 960$.

I have an extended (IE-not through MINI) warranty. I have called and left a few messages over the past few days. Maybe I should just drop in to speak with someone.

Then this should definitely be replaced under the terms of the extended warranty. Accept no excuses.

Now we are just waiting on the adjuster from the warranty company. Hendrick did not seem to happy with what they have said thus far.

Well- The work is being done by Hendrick. They have proven to be quite a stand up organization. I would not hesitate in the future to return for service or recommend them to others.

Now the warranty company on the other hand...

Par for the course.
