Political advertising on a car fourm

I belong to this forum because i enjoy cars, the MINI COOPER. Why is it when i sign in i am hit smack in the face with an Obama add with his wifes photo. Whats up with that, i get enough of that BS on TV... and hate it.

I see ads for Tire Rack, insurance companies and tax prep services. Those were the last few things I visited/Googled. Most ads these days are not chosen by the site maintainers, rather the ad program that they signed up with... and they are semi-randomly generated based on where you've been online. Try clearing your browser cache and cookies and stuff and seeing if different ads pop up.

When I'm on my home computers, I don't see any ads. AdBlockPlus, FlashBlock, and Privoxy. What ads? However I do see ads when I browse on my android mobile. Nothing political, but I do see GForce Chip ads which I think is shady.

It's based on your computer - not the site, as mentioned above. Technology is smart. ;-)
I have been talking about my VW I am trading in so all I see are ads to lease a new VW, lol.

I have nothing against Obama or his wife but do people actually look at the ads??!! Now that I am paying attention I see a Tire Rack ad with a MINI. I have purchased twice from Tire Rack and my choice was not based on any online ad but I guess NAM needs to generate some $$

For most sites ads are generated based off your browsing history. I was looking at new glasses frames earlier today and now all my ads relate to buying new frames. Welcome to the future, well, it's actually been here for a while.

Maybe someone in your family has been secretly googling him...

Kind of scary that you got that spun up over an ad though, especially when it is election year.

It's the internet. You are going to see ads everywhere for stuff you don't care about and don't want to see. Use Firefox and install an adblock plugin, learn to ignore the ads, or stop using the internets. :-)

Ads can target your region too. I have an ad for Georgia (where I live) water right now at the top of this page.

To recap, ads can be generated based off the current website, your browsing history, or where you live.

No ads for me either (well Nick Alexander and Tire Track). Your browsing history can be tracked and ads will pop up on various sites based on what you have been looking at and in what area of the world your ISP is.
