General MINI TalkShared experiences, motoring minutes, and other general MINI-related discussion that applies to all MINIs, regardless of model, year or trim.
Yea, I was going to get one from there, too, but got a killer deal up in NC. One of the MINI techs there is a good buddy of mine and he was telling how much of a pain it is when they get those cars in because some of the parts are installed on site. He says working around a cage is horrible. Haha.
I wonder why they've left the cars that heavy (read: I wonder what interior trim, radio, or air conditioning equipment was left in). GCR lists the minimum at 2600 pounds including driver.
So you get a fat driver and then stip more of the interior. But on the realz that leaves the MINI with 58 lbs before driver so a battery and rear seats and that is it.
Can't wait for these races! It's cool to see a car so similar to mine actually racing. Plus, it would be easy to convert to B-Spec specs once the MINI is retired from daily duty!
Car and Driver just did a test comparison of all the cars so it will be interesting to see how it plays out. We actually don't want the MINI to come out on top otherwise SCCA may add weight or make the restrictor plate smaller.
Anyway, I agree. I can't wait for this to get started, and hope to eventually make my car (or another one) into a B-Spec racer.

I thought of that, as well. I guess the question is, will they be reassessing the restrictor plates and added weight after every race, as well?
I can't wait to hear more detail on how it went! I've been talking to Brad and he seems really confident that the MINI will do well.

Yeah, the MINI has a 33mm restrictor plate, down from 60mm... which means they eliminated ~70% of the cross-sectional area! I guess the concern is that they might make it even SMALLER if the MINI does too well at Laguna Seca.
At some point, they're going to have to just start adding weight because drivability could be compromised... although supposedly it still drives well at 33mm.
Way, are you considering campaigning a car in the series, or just supporting with parts?
That looks pretty cool! What's really needed to "save racing" though is promotion and accessibility. How do we get people to put down their Budweisers and turn off NASCAR?

Blainestang that is awesome it is your website. Good info. BTW Daytona on Friday?
Thanks... Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool! I just wish I had refined the website a little more or had more info/products.
Yes, I will be at Daytona on Friday, so I'll see you there, right?

I hope MINI really puts some money behind the promotion and the other manufacturers do the same... Fiat, Honda, Mazda, Ford, etc. it would be great to get some good rivalries going, like Trans-Am in the 60s-70s
