GF Chips

Does anyone have any experience with a GF chip for an S model? I am curious to know how effective they are in terms of horsepower in fuel efficiency. Thanks!

Remember....too good to be true...it is.
Look up the list of cars they work on....lol.
many of the cars on the list are non computer cars...kinda hard to install a chip on a pre-emissions non computer, non fuel injected car...
They just want your $$$.

Money talks. If you wanted to pay for a full-time banner ad here, I'm sure they'd be happy to drop the ad for GF chips (once any contract had run out). It's unfortunate, but true.

In general, the best we can do is share our experiences with anyone who asks.

Yeah, I know that "money talks," but it's unethical to accept ads for a product that the operators know is totally bogus.

I agree that the product sounds too good to be true. But (And there is always a butt) has anyone really tried it or know someone who has?
For the record. No I won't because I won't take a chance on voiding my warranty or blowing my engine. If MINI sold this as an upgrade (It would cost about $2K from them) then I would consider it.

Anyway the whole higher compression ratio is more efficient thing sounds too simple and unbelieveable. If it were true then why isn't every manufacturer using higher ratios.

If someone has experience with it and would not be to embarassed to admit it it would be nice to hear it.

Here's one person with experience:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/1576748928-post5.html

"No change" is his verdict.

A quick look at their website says:
The GF module installs into your MINI COOPER's engine bay and is connected via 2 wires that plug into the IAT sensor.
(Had to dig that out of the page source, very annoying!)

To me, this says that this "chip" is yet another IAT resistor gimmick. It changes the resistance of your Intake Air Temp sensor, which makes the fuel injection "think" that the air is colder than it is. That will cause more fuel to be injected, but the oxygen sensor will quickly detect that and dial the fuel back; it will sometimes also cause more timing advance. But if your car is running near the edge on timing, the knock sensor will detect the spark knock that gets caused at that point and pull the timing back anyway.

So the net effect on at least 90% of cars out there: Zero.

And the "chip" is just a 20-cent resistor that you get to pay $70 (or however much) for. It's definitely a good way to lighten your wallet.

Yes, someone has looked at one. It's a chip in a plastic box, with wires only soldered to 2 of the connectors. I'd link but I'm on my mobile. It's 100% snake oil.

Great info Slave and Danny. I looked at it but I thought it sounded to good to be true. Thanks.
