Xenon headlights

HI y'all. I have the R58 with the factory Xenon headlights. Will it harm the lights if I run it in Auto with the daytime running lamp (DRL) or should I disable them? The reason I ask is I own a Passat and it was no-no to run DRL because it runs at a lower power level.

I don't think it makes any difference. As I recall the xenons always run at the same output and mirrors or something change the brightness.

IIRC (in the Passat), it needs a certain power level (when headlights are turned on manually) and DRL's run at lower power and hence is not good with Xenon headlights. This was true with my 2002 VW Passat, so I was wondering if the same applies to the R58. I suspect the DRL's run at the same power level as if the headlights were turned on.

The car will not run the headlight at a reduced power like similar DRL in halogens because like you already said they are made ot do that. Thus the factory will not try to only push say 9V to the HIDs instead of the required 12. No worries to run DRL if it makes you feel better.

I have the xenons and have run them as DRLs and they appear to be at regular, full power. Can't decide if it makes sense to do the DRL thing or not. Maybe I should just turn the foglights on.

Unless you've rewired your fog lights, they won't come on unless the headlights are on. At least, that's what I've found on my R58.

I like having DRL's, but for some reason, MINI has programmed the DRL's to also light up the taillights & marker lights on the Coupé, which is a waste. So I shut them off.

I swear I had this same conversation with myself this evening. Turned the DRL's off after one day driving with them on.

Talked to my MA today after he accidentally called me while on his vacation. He is going to see if he can get the part numbers for the bulbs. Once I have those, we will be home free.

Not really tracking what you are looking for, but if you need part numbers you can look at the same database that they have access to.
