Accessory Rail phone holder

So, my problems with the holder started when the handbrake accidentally hit the phone and the holder snapped open. I was able to salvage the part, the two arms, one spring and the back plate with a gear in the middle. Took me a little while to figure where the spring fitted, it wasn't obvious it squeezed under the arms. Anyway, put it back together, tested out the mechanism and refitted it onto the base. However, it has been very flimsy since, snapping apart under any pressure.

Is anyone having any similar difficulties with their holder? I am guessing there were two springs in there and I lost one of them, or the back plate was glued to the front somehow. Any insights?

My friend broke my phone holder within 2 hours of owning the car. I have put it back together several times before I decided to just take it out of the car for good. There are 2 springs, one for each arm, but as far as I can tell it just snaps together and falls apart easily.

Thanks. It's already tricky to put together with one spring, I imagine it's a nightmare with two. However, I doubt my second spring is still in the car but I am going to try and glue the back to the front and let you know how it holds up.

Having the same problems. Going to take it to Mini Dealer and tell them to give me another one (which I will glue the seams). Taken and fixed this thing 2 times for my wife.

had my iPod holder snap apart recently, took it to the dealer in pieces and they gave me a new one....new one works better than the original. I bought out of stock and I think someone played with it originally when looking at them...when we were first looking at CMs, I saw a family with two kids there two and while the parents talked with the advisor, the two kids were climbing all of the two CMs on the floor and a JCW. Once the manager saw it, he stopped them but they broke the cupholder in the rear rail of a CM
