Service question - how many miles is a road test?

Hopefully someone here can help me out. I had my 2009 R57 in for service due to a check engine light. Turns out the turbo went bad and had to be replaced. They asked if they could road test it and I said yes. When I got the car home I realized that there were 60 miles on it.

I feel that 60 miles is a bit excessive for a road test. Can anyone share their experiences when their car was in for service and had to be road tested?

Thanks in advance!

They put miles on it to diagnose and miles on it after repair, more after I suspect. They had to drive the car around until it was presumably warmed up and went through various levels of boost to test it thoroughly. While they may have run to the next town over to pickup lunch for the shop in you car there is no evidence nor really a cause for concern for me.

After every service, my car gets a 60 mile road test. Of course I do all my own service, and hate driving. So the next day's commute (60mi round trip) is my road test. I've had things show up after 10 miles, so while that 60 does seem higher than normal, it's not of itself a bad thing, in my opinion.

would you rather have the fixed right on the first trip to the dealer or have to go back for a second time...maybe they did 2 or 3 road tests to get it right...

Thanks for the responses so far. I agree that it should be fixed correctly the first time and that a road test is the only way to ensure that everything is working well. I wonder if anyone else out there has had a road test with this many miles or were the service guys just having fun at my expense.

Your car is a MINI - I wouldn't fault them for having fun :-P

Edit: I know what you were really getting at. I just couldn't help myself.

+1 same here. I think it is a bit high but I would cause a stink over it, at least they drove it and were looking/listening for something.

The dealer wanted to do an extended (100 mile) test drive after they replaced the 2nd Vanos unit on my car. To make sure it was fixed. They asked my permission first, then had the mechanic take the car home and back to the shop for a few days. They're just making sure your car had no more problems with the turbo.
