(Probably) Stupid Question about Keyless Entry on Our Cars

When I got my car, I noticed right away that the horn didn't sound when I hit the lock button on my keyfob. I would prefer it did, so that I know the car locked as Im walking away from it, but my MA seemed to think it wasn't possible to set the car to do so.
Lo and behold, the hardtop I have as a loaner DOES honk when locked and unlocked. Both cars are 2012, the loaner has comfort access, and mine doesn't. So does anyone else out there with a justa cooper without Comfort access know if our cars can honk when locked?

I'm not near my owners manual now but I'm pretty sure I saw that one of the settings in the setup menu is to configure whether there's a horn beep or not. Check the setup guide. BTW, my car does beep when I use the fob.

I have the alarm and it chirps instead of a horn -- mine does not have a horn option, but has an option to turn the chirp off and on. You should be able to dig through the options in Connect to see what's available.

Gloomchen, you might have hit the nail on the head. I dont have an alarm...I bet the chirp really indicates that it is armed. Found a setting that dealt with what locked and unlocked with the first click of the button, but there wasnt an option there for the "chirp" so Im betting alarmless cars wont do it.

You have to have the alarm otherwise no chirp or beep when locking and unlocking. Why it can't use the horn like other cars, I don't know, but I had a 335i without the alarm and it didn't make any sound when it locked and unlocked either (and it cost twice as much as the MINI). Go figure.

ah well, I got my hopes up a little. Im typically NOT a fan of the chirp, but a few times now I've had that "Did I lock the car?" moment when Im already in the office or halfway to the door kinda thing.

You can buy a piezo buzzer.siren, chirper at Radio Shack for about $5.00 and wire it into you gas door locking solenoid.

Just listen for the loud lock solenoids. Horns are a bit less classy. I understand the need/want but for I was so glad it doesn't do it.
