should I switch from Epic to Hydro Seal?

I just found out about Prima's new products - Hydro Seal and Hydro Wash - and am wondering if it's worth switching my routine.

I use Epic once or twice a year, and Hydro to dry the car every time I hand wash. I've got a Pepper White car and the only part that is a bit difficult is seeing the Epic on the car to know if it's properly applied. I do everything by hand too (no PC), so it's a bit tiring for me, but no big deal, especially since there is a break between application and removal. If Hydro Seal requires equal or less physical effort and an easier assessment of even application for the same effect, I would be interested.

One question I have regards drying the car. I saw Nick's video of how to use the product and he starts on a dry car. Does it make sense to continue drying the car with Hydro and then apply Hydro Seal? Or is that a waste of product?

Also, how essential is Hydro Wash? If I only really need it a couple of times a year when I use Hydro Seal, could I just wash with Dawn for those 2 times and continue with Mystique for the typical washes?

thanks for any input.

I had the same question about applying hydro as I dried and then applying hydro seal. Nick told me to always put Hydro Seal on first. Apparently, adding hydro before the sealant would prevent it from clinging to the paint.

so do you just wash with Hydro Wash and then dry with your MFs before starting?

Yep. I've talked to other people who apply the hydro seal as they dry their car, but the potential for streaks seems too high for me to actually try it.

yeah, I definitely say apply the hydro seal to an already dried car using the mist and wipe technique. There is very little water required for hydro seal to actually work so trying to apply it to a car that is still wet from a wash pretty much negates the whole part where hydro seal is a quick process.

Ok cool. How about the visibility on Pepper White? Easier to see what you're doing than with Epic?

I've used both on my Mini and my Range Rover. While Hydro Seal can be put on real quick, compared to Epic, I like the look and feel of Epic when put on with a PC.

When I used Hydro Seal on my Range Rover, I got some real nasty hard water stains from water dripping off the parking structure during a two week stay at the Boston Logan Airport. It seem to eat right through the Hydro seal. I had to strip off the wax, and use swirl to remove all the stains. So, I'm not sure it's as durable as Epic.

I do very much like the new Hydro wash, smells great and creates great suds. The jury is still out on Hydro Seal for me.

hmmm... maybe I'll just stick with Epic for now. Since it's only a twice a year event, I don't know if the quickness of applying Hydro Seal would warrant the switch. thanks to all for your input.

I am trying it. What I have decided to do is use Epic once a year and then use Hydro seal halfway between using Epic. I am hoping this works so I can reduce the amount of work to keep the finish up. I use Hydro at every wash and apply Banana gloss every couple of months SO I use a pretty good routine as it is.

So I continue to use Epic as my main sealant but I've started using Hydro Seal about once a month because it is so easy and I think it prolongs the protection Epic provides.
I've modified somewhat Nick's recommended application technique. After washing with Hydro Wash I pull the dripping car into the garage and apply Hydro Seal over the entire surface. I then come back and dry - as long as it is out of the sun and will stay wet I see no reason to dry then mist to apply Hydro Seal. Besides if you hit a spot with dryer Hydro Seal you can just add mist to wipe off.
Hydro Seal is an easy layer to apply during these mag chloride-saturated months just for that little added protection.

Chuck, when you use your modified method do you have to take any additional care to keep Hydro Seal out of the clear bra seams?

OBTW, congrats on the Roadster order.

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to the Roadster. As for the clearbra I go with the seam not across it and I've never had any issues.
