Bluetooth setup?

I apologize in advance for this question as I could not seem to find anything that showed me how to pair my phone to the Bluetooth in my car.

So, I have an '06 Cooper S that I just purchased and the dealer says it came factory equipped with Bluetooth.

Does anyone know how to pair a phone with factory Bluetooth?

Thanks for your help.

is it "Bluetooth ready" or it actual has bluetooth? Look on your steering wheel and if you have it, you will see the call buttons. That's what I need to know first.

There is an actual picture of a phone on one of the buttons of my steering wheel. I can take a pic of my wheel tomorrow if that helps.

Thanks again for your help.

No need to take a picture

There are two ways to do it, the simple and simple but with more steps way. I forget which will work with your car so let's try the simple short way first:

1. Go into the Bluetooth menu of your phone.

2. Select "Search for new devices" from the options in your phone's Bluetooth menu.

3.Select your car's stereo from the list that appears. Your phone will list all of the Bluetooth devices around your phone.

4.When prompted, enter the pairing code for your car's stereo into your phone. Your car stereo's pairing code is typically located in the manual for your vehicle, or on a sticker located on the stereo unit.

Second way:

1. Turn on the phone you are connecting and set Bluetooth to "Discoverable" mode using the Bluetooth settings menu. Your MINI cannot recognize the device unless it is "visible."

2. Insert the key and turn the ignition to the "On" position. Wait for the controller LED light to blink once.

3. Press "Send/Receive" on the controller. Wait for a beep and say "Setup."

4. Say "Phone Pairing" when the system asks you what you would like to do.

5. Say "Pair" when the system asks you if you would like to pair or delete a current phone. The Mini system searches for the device you placed in "Discoverable" mode.

6. Press the "Yes" button on your phone when prompted to accept the "Mini HF." Press the "Yes" button again to add the phone.

7. Enter the pass code (or another if you find a different code) "0000" using your phone's keypad and press "Enter" or "Accept." Modify or accept the "Mini HF" name. For example, you can change the name to "My Mini" for display during your next pairing session. Press "Yes" or "Accept" to complete the pairing process.

Good luck. Hopefully the first work.

There must be something wrong with the Bluetooth on my car because my phone isn't picking anything up.

I'll have to see what I can do to troubleshoot.

i know from my older mini which was an 08 had the button on the steering wheel but actually didnt have the software in the car. i would double check because you might not have the actual bluetooth software in the car.

Exactly, that's what I was referring to about "bluetooth-ready."

The car is ready for the soft/hardware to be installed but it doesn't actually have bluetooth in the car.

What this does is allow you to have an integrated bluetooth system in the car, if you wanted it.

the MFSW has buttons for radio, phone, cruise. It doesn't mean that you have the bluetooth kit.

I can't recall the way to check for sure. I have the buttons but not the kit. I added an aftermarket kit from Parrot. Once it was installed my Iphone found the bluetooth kit without problem.

So it isn't the car that finds the phone it is the phone that finds the car.

Speaking of Bluetooth, I've been having a problem where it randomly loses the connection to my phone and I have to go through the pairing process each time. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I can go for a week without a problem and then have it lose the connection a couple of days in a row. Odd.

Where did you get the Parrot kit from? How much is it?

Thanks for your help.

When I ordered my '06 MCS I didn't want to pay the additional price for the Bluetooth, but since I have the multi-function steering wheel I do have the phone button.

It is possible to get this added now, preferably w/o getting taken to cleaners by a MINI dealer?
