R56 Lowering spring opinions?
Lowering spring opinions?
Im looking to get a set of lowering springs, deffinatley want a 1.5 inch drop if not a little more. Like anyone else id like a good set of springs that dont wear out easy and give you a more sportier, stiffer suspension.
Any reccomendations? Pictures are also nice so i can see how it looks on the car.
Thanks!

Be sure to upgrade the shocks at the same time if you lower. The stock shocks are pure garbage with the stock springs, and are absolutely 101% inadequate when the car is lowered. Lowering the car onto stock shocks will wear them out prematurely and handling and ride quality will be bad from Day 1, then horrendous as they wear out. Do it right the first time.
I'm running with Bilstien HD's, You may want to opt for the Bilstien sports as they are designed for lowered springs, although I have no complaints.
My sig pic is the best I have at the moment. Good luck.

But there is a lot of people running the regular Bilsteins (they’re 1 1/2” longer) and they’re considerably cheaper.

I ran the stock shocks for quite a while (even tracking them on my last mini)
I’ve got a set of NM springs for sale if you’re interested. I took them off mine when I went to coilovers.
180 shipped in US.

Seems a lot of you guys are really clueless.
Bilstein HD shocks are only appropriate for the stock springs. If you put a lowering spring on the car with them you will have 0 front suspension travel. They WILL ride on the internal bumpstops, and the front of the car will bounce all over the place. I installed a set on a friends car with the TSW springs. His car = no movement, my car (TSW springs and Koni's, about 3/4" lower) was great. He then bought Koni's from Way. Now maybe if you disassemble the Billy and cut the internal bumpstop in half, that might be ok. (and no, it was installed correctly and I didn't install the original bumpstop)
If you car going to lower the car, use the Bilstein Sport shocks. They are shorter. (still don't like the valving), or Koni sport shocks, or get real coilovers. But I'm betting that anything more than 1 inch is going to cause some geometry issues...
Oh,
Merry Christmas

Ya the koni shocks have a set of 4 for 850. Which isn't bad. I don't see having much of a problem with lowering springs that lower the car 1.4" compared to 1.2". I'll research it more and see what I can find
Gee whiz Richard, I must have gotten some Bilstien HD"s that are defective. I seem to have some degree of suspension travel, and the front of my car doesn't bounce all over the place. What could possibly be wrong? As you are an expert on everything, please let me know so I can remedy this as soon as possible. I will have to complain to Bilstien forthwith.

I don’t think so... the reason I say that is the regular Bilsteins are the same length as the stock shocks.

If you really want to lower your car 2inches you need coilovers. Doing that on any shock is not going to give you enough travel. For the price of Bilsteins and springs you can buy coilovers. The Megan coilovers are only $950
Now if you do get Bilsteins you do need to get the Sports because they are designed for lowering.
Also I don't recommend the H&R's, you loose too much shock travel with them.

I drove for a couple of years (including a lot of track days) a set of NM springs with stock shocks and never had a problem.
Just as I was going to finally upgrade to the shorter shocks, I ended up going to coilovers.
I don’t think it’s worth upgrading to coilovers unless you’re doing performance driving (track days, etc...) You can easily drive them on the street but it kills the ride (more so if you’re running 18’s).
Of course, for you young guys, ya’ll don’t care how it rides...

HD's are stock length, the sports are shorter, and more expensive.

Why you continually insist on being deprecating and condescending in your posts, and I quote (" Seem's a lot of you guys are really clueless"), is simply beyond me and unnecessary.
I offered the OP my OPINION on what mods I have, and your OPINIONS are just as valuable. Perhaps I should have been more forthcoming.
I tend to be somewhat miserly with words in my posts, due to my questionable typing skills. However I will now elaborate.
After I first bought my car, I was traveling on an incline overpass, and when I encountered an expansion joint on the bridge the car felt like it wished to swap lanes. Mildly unnerving, and my thought was, something in the suspension needs to be addressed.
I started some research on the subject. Money was/was not an object.
I looked at coilovers and considered the Bilstien PSS10's at $2K+. As I am somewhat of an antique, and my racing days are behind me, I still appreciate a good handling vehicle. For me, the coilovers would have been major overkill. I have always been partial to Bilstien products and looked at both the HD's and Sport shocks.
I too sought OPINIONS and also spoke with Bilstien reps. and was assured that the HD's would work fine for my intended application, (NM lowering springs). Personally, I don't care for the slammed lowered look, but I certainly don't mind if others like it.
At the time I purchased the HD's, they were considerably less expensive than the Sports, however, if the Bilstien rep would have indicated that the Sports were the sole option, I would have purchased them. I understand the HD's are more costly now (demand up?).
In summation, I feel my car handles quite well, tracks like it's on rails, DOES NOT hop all over the place, and indeed, does have some degree of suspension travel. On rough roads the ride is somewhat disagreeable, but the car is short and the suspension is tighter. On decent roads, it's like driving on glass. I am happy with it, and in the end , that is all that matters.
I have noticed your condesending demeanor in other threads, and I can only guess that in your face to face dealings with others, you are not so arrogant or boorish, as I can see you constantly walking around with either black eyes or a fat lip. I am not fond of bullies, cyber or otherwise, At any rate, Good luck in the future.
Now let's have some more opinions
