IN winter driving.

I have read a few threads about winter driving and just wanted to know what everyones local experiences/tips etc about it.

As of right now, a dedicated winter tire set is out of budget.

Thanks all!

I run a set of all season tires in the winter and find that to be fine. I have summer tires in good weather that I prefer to use.

I know some people like to run winter tires. I do not think we get that much snow most of the time to worry about needing winter tires.

I think the MINI's front wheel drive does just fine in most situations.

Yes, the engine over the driving wheels helps, but ...

Summer tires: not good in snow/ice; not even very good in the cold.

All Seasons: better in the cold, and a little better in the snow than summers. Conti DWS seems to be king of the snow for an A/S tire.

Winter/snow tires: Best in snow and ice, but wears fairly quickly on dry pavement.

We're also making do with A/S tires all winter, but don't go out in very slippery conditions. We have a 4-wheel drive SUV for that.

Thanks all for the info so far, just a bit apprehensive since all I have ever driven have been AWD SUV's.

We have our Honda Element for the bad stuff, but the Mini is my daily driver.

My previous r50 I ran all-seasons without any trouble....just take your time and be safe. This year I have some blizzaks for the r56 and just from driving around on the dry pavement it feels like a 4x4 in comparison. Bring it on winter!!
