place for small donut spare?

i'm interested in ditching the runflats when the tread is gone, but i do want a small donut tire to keep me on the road. has anyone found a small enough spare that will not take up to much space? i would love one small enough to fit under the floor in the back.

Does anyone know if the OutMotoring micro spare will fit under the flat load floor? There is no diameter listed for it. Seems like if it was less than 20" it would fit.

From doing some more research, it looks like its 21.3" which is just a tad too big to fit under it.

Will that fit on a Countryman? I didn't see R60 listed on the site and the bolt pattern shown in the image is only 4 instead of 5.

Just another note -- that spare has a 4x100 bolt pattern. The CM has a 5x120 bolt pattern.

if a small donut is found that is close to fitting it could be deflated to fit, and a small air pump could be stored with it to air it up if needed.

If anyone wants to be really radical, the boot liner is removable and more room may be available. I intend to go with plugs, a compressor and AAA.

Outmotoring confirmed with me that they don't sell a CM spare small enough to fit under the boot floor at this time. Alas. I would feel a lot better ditching the runflats when they finally die if I could have a real spare. I feel a bit nervous entrusting myself to a slime kit.

I would LOVE a micro spare that fit under the floor and a slime kit. That way I could slime if possible and use the spare if the tire was too shredded for slime.

This is exactly what I'm doing, but mine is an MCS. I have the micro spare from Outmotoring and a Slime kit. I'll probably only carry the micro spare on longer trips since the S doesn't have a well to put it in. Has to sit in the boot.

You know, even though I have a micro-spare for my MCS (shod with non-run-flats), I have become very accustomed to plugging tires with THIS kit.

I originally bought it for the motorcycle, but used it on the MCS when I woke up to a flat tire one morning. It worked admirably until I was able to bring the tire in for a permanent patch. Since that time, I have practiced on an old tire and feel as though I could easily do the repair by the side of a dimly lit road in the rain. Of course, you need to carry a pump as well.

I see that now. When you drill down from the left hand side under Countryman and get to the wheels, it shows up though. They need to fix that on the site.

We need to find out what the BMW part number is for this rim and then just order that and put a tire and stem on it. Most BMW spare tire rims go for about $100 or so from what I have found so far on the web. The MiniMania price is outrageous for the whole setup. I travel by myself for work sometimes so I am not concerned about the space. I'd like to have a real spare in the boot in case of a blowout. Yeah the run flats may do okay if punctured, but if you happen to run over something substantial your tire may catastrophically fail and then no amount of slime or anything will help.

I just ordered 6 compact spares for the R60 and should have them priced in the $160- range.

I should have them on the site by Friday or Monday.....

Hey Aaron - are you talking about something that will fit under the boot floor? Or just the micro compact that doesn't quite fit but with the appropriate bolt pattern for the R60?

That for the tire and rim, but compact size? Awesome!

The one for the other MINIs are 21.3" dia. which is a tad too wide so I doubt these would be any smaller. May be able to deflate slightly and squeeze it in though. I would not want to deflate too much though and break the seal with the bead. Without a high flow rate compressor you'd have a hard time getting it pumped up. I would still be happy putting it on top of the flat load floor, it would be a major bonus if it fits underneath though.

so far I have not been able to find a spare wheel that will not only fit the R60 but also be small enough to store under the false floor....If I do I will swap to that size but for now I have a basic spacer saver tire/wheel combo on the way...

Just ordered the following from OutMotoring:
SKU Product Item price Quantity Total
microspare1 Micro Space Saver Spare Tire + Wheel for Countryman $169.95** 1 $169.95
This is a reasonable price and over 40% less than MiniMania's price. Aaron at OutMotoring has my aftermarket business now.

Aaron, thanks for sourcing. I just talked to a friend yesterday that has a beemer with run flats and he has already has two blowouts where the ruflat feature was no help as the tire catastrophically failed. I want to have a spare and this was a good solution.

The space under the floor is ~20" wide. I doubt you will find anything that would fit as it would mean that the tire thickness would have to be 1.5".
20" minus 17" divided by 2 = 1.5". This would make the tire smaller than a typical motorcycle tire.

Thumbs up Boot picture of the OutMotoring Micro Space Saver Spare Tire + Wheel

It fits nicely laying flat with the left seat clicked forward just one notch. I am going to have my daughter sew me a cover for it !

I put the rear boot floor up against the rear seats and moved the jack kit out of the way to see what it would look like with the wheel vertical and centered behind the seats, but there is nothing to strap it to keep it in that position so I opted for just laying it flat behind the seat.

Could you use the LATCH attachment points on the back of the rear seats? Perhaps a secure tie through the holes in the wheel?

I just went to the garage and checked your idea out. (I only had one bungee cord, but ideally you'd want two and criss cross them.) This will work if you remove the floor completely as it covers the LATCH points and don't let anyone change the angle of the rear seats. I may end up doing that as it will leave more total usable large space when I have the whole family plus luggage in it for a long trip. When we went home for Thanksgiving, I was able to pack a lot in the boot with the floor folder up out of the way versus breaking up the space with the floor divider. I got one large and one medium roller board suitcase plus a large briefcase and several smaller duffles in. Looks like with your idea, I could do two medium roller board cases plus some of the other items.
