Dirty -- Mudflaps?

So I have had my car for a couple months and it seems like the rear of the car always looks extremely dirty. I wash it every few weeks but no matter what the back of the car looks like there is dirt all over it. Will getting the mud flaps help with that? I probably won't be washing as much in the winter, so is going through the car wash really a problem or maybe I should just by the carwash spray for a quick clean up?

It's the shape of the back of the car, really any car with a flat back will do this. The mud flaps will help on the sides of the car, but not on the back.

For winter months you can pick up some of the waterless wash products and some micro-fiber towels to keep it clean. Optimum No Rinse, Adams Waterless wash, or any other will do the trick.

The front mud flaps help with keeping the front wheel brake dust and other dirt off the sides of the car. The rear mud flaps help keep crud from building up under the rear of the car behind the wheels. Nothing helps keep the dirt off the back as it accumulates all over it, like with any chopped off car body.

Compared to my Clubman the CM has a clean bum, I've been pretty impressed, it's also a lot cleaner than my wife's old V70 and her new VW Touran.

I'm going to have to get some of the waterless wash. The Comic Blue doesn't show a lot of dirt on the bum. But I have white sport stripes. They show everything! They look like chocolate chip ice cream with all the little black dirt specks.

Just got my order in, set…for both front & rears. Saw them on a countryman at the dealership and looked pretty good. Quality is also good, not your typical mud flaps.
Actually made to form with the contour of the car. Just need to find the time to mount them. $89. for the set of 4.

Does anyone have the MINI instructions for mud flap install that they can post?

I like them, too. Sturdy? Just keep in mind Jillrnc's advice based on experience

Rally Armor makes a universal UR mud flap

Might be they are "sturdier", you have to find mounting hardware yourself though.

Funny, I was going to ask the exact same question when I discovered your post.

The back of my Cooper hatch is filthy anytime it rains or snows—even a little bit. I used to have a Honda Civic hatch that never accumulated dirt like my Cooper does on the rear, so I am not sure what is causing it.

I see people here saying mudflaps won't help - but I wonder if this is their own personal theory/opinion or do they actually have mudflaps?

Can anyone with mudflaps on their Cooper can attest with certainty one way or the other whether they help?

I would fully expect that they would help...

I wondered that, too, so I drove down a familiar road for about 20 minutes before I installed the mud flaps. I couldn't see much out the back window and dust was drifted on the bumper top. The sides of the car were heavily dusted.

I installed the mud flaps.

About a week later I made the same trip starting with a clean car...I couldn't see much out the back window and dust was drifted on the bumper top. There was less dust on the sides of the car (I wanted to cut down on the brake dust deposits, so that worked).

Thanks. I have a feeling a Cooper R56 might give different results than a Countryman.

For me, the sides of my MINI aren't any worse than I'd expect from any other car, but the rear is way filthier than I was expecting (I presume this is why MINI covers the rear hatch handle in rubber - since it would be clogged with dirt in no time otherwise)

I am sorely tempted to install some, but would still love to hear from someone with an R56...

More popcorn please...
