Should I connected??

hey guys!! how you all doing??

I ordered my CM ALL4 S and it is on production. I been on the forum few days and saw most of the ppl get the Mini Connected. I'm wondering am I dumb that didn't get one?? Am I losing all the feature (such as car setting) that Connected can do!!!

I don't know guys, I just not really like the meter style with Connected.

Give me some advice!!!

thank you

i didn't get it....facebook, twitter, pandora....i didn't care...i am always on the computer and i just want to enjoy the ride. however, if they sold the navigation without mini connected, then i would have probably splurged for that; but, not interested in spending $1,750 for a gps ($1k for mini connected and $750 for navigation). i did splurge for the harmon kardon upgrade and backup sensors. also each countryman comes standard with an audio input so you can play any device on it, if that is what you are interested in. plus satellite radio is free for a year. by the way, there are some very neat and lower cost high tech gadgets for any car such as blue tooth phone devices that clip onto your visor and slim gps systems that also include bluetooth for your phone....search amazon. so bottom line, i haven't looked back, just looked forward to getting my mini.

Nope, didn't get it. Way to expensive for the quality of features in the design. I too would have considered NAV, but not when forced to spend the other 1K on something that seemed a few years behind the times (not touch screen, controlled by a joystick!). I also don't need FB and Pandora in the car, so I'm happy with my choice. Enjoy what you have and move on.

Too expensive for what you get. I skipped it too. MINI are really pushing it - they must make some decent profit on this option.

If your car is in production, it's too late - but your car will arrive soon!

Actually, this discussion is almost like trying to prove a negative, but having said that, I have connected and wouldn't have the car without it. Agreed, it isn't perfect, but it is conveniently situated and the navigation feature has saved my butt several times. One thing to consider is that it opens the avenue for future software updates that offer more features. It definitely adds value to the car come trade in or lease expiration time.

Sat nav tends not to work so well where I live and I can check FB anytime I want on my iPhone. So I skipped it, got xenons instead! I can't say whether you will suffer by not having it as I have never used it.

I have never once thought "rats if I had connected now I could....". It is just another electronic thing.

Thank you for all the input!! I agree to most of the ppl, it is very expensive. The GPS is kind of small compare to the other and be honest I don't use it much. I have my Garmin to do the job, so I guess I will get the GPS mount from CravenSpeed.

I just worry without the connected will lose some feature setting for the car. I heard ppl said I can still have those feature, but I just have no idea where is the button to get in the setup menu and where I can see without the screen.

I am a techie and passed on the system. Too buggy for my lack of patience. Plus, you need to buy an additional adapter that is not even made yet one year later.

I have it, and I would have agreed with the "not worth it" comments until the iOS 5 upgrade enabled all features without the cradle adapter. Make sure your dealership includes the Y-adapter because they run something like $80.

Whether it's "worth it" or not is largely a measure of the monetary value you put on the features. I really like having a screen in the speedo that displays my trip information, even when I haven't connected my iPhone. I also really enjoy having album art and controlling the playlists from the joystick instead of looking down at the phone. The iPhone app features are fun too, though nothing mission critical.

They might be making a good profit on Connect, but what about the profit they're losing by not selling nearly as many nav systems. Like others have said, I would have definitely gotten the nav for $750, but I wasn't going to pay $1,750 for it. I think bundling the nav with Connect was a dumb move. The people that wanted the Connect would have bought it AND the nav, but the people that just want the nav, won't buy the bundle.

I'm pretty sure you have the same functionality without Connect, but Connect makes it a lot easier. I just sold my 335i which has the same interface as the Mini for settings and I can tell you it's ponderous, complicated and difficult. Connect makes it much easier, but at a very high price.

I have Connect, mainly because I wanted the GPS, but I am glad I got it cause Pandora is great. I still haven't figured out how to get my Facebook up on the screen, may have to go back to my MA to have help with that. But I like Connect a lot.

Thank you for that. I understand how is the plain....so I assume all the setting in on the "on board computer". God....so small to see the setting menu!!!

Can you really be messing around with Facebook while driving? If so, these cars ought to have some kind of obvious signage on them, like a giant red C on the back window to warn other drivers that the person driving the car with Connect is probably not paying any attention to the road. I live in CA where drivers use driving as a way to do just about everything and anything except drive - putting on make up, reading the newspaper, eating a four course meal, and now...Angry Birds?

Pandora, web radio, google send to car, google search, and the ipod user interface are all great. MOG will be available soon(hopefully)

Everything else is dumb in my opinion. I don't need to read facebook or twitter while driving. The RSS feed is a good idea, but it cuts off the article after about 3 sentences and I can't seem to find a way to show more. Mission control is just annoying and pointless(and why do you have to choose between this and web radio?), and the mini minimalyzer, or whatever it's called, is not intuitive at all.

The strong point of this system is that it's scalable. It can continue to be built upon since it is all software based. I'm looking forward to what other apps will become available.

not to rain on anyone's parade but everytime i ever bought something because of a promise of future functionality, i have always been disappointed. whether it was the newest game console, mp3 player etc., it never ever seems to pan out. so for the relatively large expenditure on something so new and unproven (not ready for prime time), i took a pass on it. who knows...in three to five years, they probably wont even support it and have something totally new like MINI LIVE!

It's a Mini .. of course it should be loaded with Gadgets, decored with fancy Sport Stripes and driven with a large Ego and a "I brake for no one" attitude ...

.. and with a opening for 3rd Party addons and Android support, I def. wouldn't cut myself short of those possibilities from the start.

i read the article and it sounded like an informercial for mini. the comments were insightful. basically, after one year, bmw/mini is just opening up connected to third party apps. i agree with one commenter that developing apps is too expensive given the relatively small base of mini connected systems...so i dont hold out much hope. if it were 250 USD than i would have bought it...but for this price plus you have to use your apple phone (if you have apple) forgettaboutit! oh, and then another 750 USD for nav....what???

I'm sure the apps will be cross platform with BMW iDrive which has way more sales
