Pictures of a ful lsize spare in 2012 CM

Thought I would post a picture of a spare tire in the back of my 2012 CM. I (like many people have posted) have wondered how well a spare would fit in the CM - works for me!

The spare tire is for my winter snows -size is a 225/50R-17 mounted on 17" x 7.5" rims.
The width and the height is basically the same as my stock 18" turbofans that came with my CM.
There is enough room to put my large computer bag (Dimensions are 16.5"W x 9" D x 15.5"H) next to the spare. Also plenty of solid attachment points (second pict) to ratchet the tire so it does not move. The tire needs to sit in the well otherwise the spare blocks the rear window almost completely. I do not have the flat load floor option.
Bye Bye Runflats . . .

Very nice, you didn't have to move the rear seats forward did you?

What winter tire did you go for? I just ordered a set of Michelin Xi2's in the same size but will wing it with slime and plug kit

That is basically what I did. Cannot afford to lose the trunk and would not be changing tires in -30c.

Spare

I did not have to move the rear seats forward, they are all the way back.

I went with the Michelin Xi2's......great tire, quiet for a snow, and wear quite well. i prefer over the Blizzaks and many of the other snow tires. Just read Cons Reports picked them and the Blizzaks DM-v1 best for severe winter traction.

Did you get the actual "Slime"? If so, where did you find it?

I almost ordered one from Hammacher Schlemmer, but then I found one at Canadian Tire for $40. Nice kit in case with pump and slimy stuff. Great buy and fits with all the other stuff under the floor.

So now you have no luggage space whatsoever, I think I would stick with the runflats. What happens if you take out spare to use the luggage area and have a flat?

Luggage space is reduced by 65% and still room for one bag, It's a tradeoff. Usually only 1 or 2 people in the car - could always put a bag on the back seat.
What happens if you live where I do (in the Northeast where it is pothole city) and a chunk of tire gets taken out of the sidewall? I have had this happen. Slime will not help you there. And usually it is 2-3 days to get a run flat tire cause no one likes to stock them.
I do a lot of driving for work, to some remote areas too, and I would rather have a spare. . .

I did think of this, but I have NO ROOM in my trunk. Trunk pack with tools and parts. I Have to mount it on my roof rack. I did hit a pothole and ripped a chunk.

What kinda parts you have in your trunk? There is room behind the tire....when I took the picture the tire was sitting in the boot not strapped in..factory jack was in there with a 3' breaker bar...still Some room for a bag of tools.

just had 205/50/17 Continental Extreme winter contact tires mounted on original rims that came with countryman all4. Have not had time to test them out yet but ride was more civilized compared to run flats that came with car. Living in NH there are a lot of potholes already.
